State University of New York Cortland is Hiring a Group Exercise/Personal Training Assistant - Summer 2024 Near Cortland, NY
/Duties
This position requires the candidate to assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Instructors and Fitness Attendants hired to work within the Student Life Center and also to serves as a mentor to all employees. Job responsibilities include:
Educating student employees regarding conduct policy (student write-ups) and consistently enforcing policies and procedures.
Preparing for and conducting staff meetings for student employees.
Assisting with in-service trainings and changes to departmental policies and procedures
Ensuring policies and procedures are being followed by members and guests
Provide ongoing supervision and evaluation of employees and assist with completing student staff evaluations twice per year
Providing leadership in regards to the implementation of risk management/safety policies and follow appropriate procedures for the Emergency Action Plan
Educating staff regarding substitution policy and calling in to work procedures
Assisting with ensuring proper coverage of all classes on the group exercise schedule (including helping with finding coverage if staff needs assistance and possibly filling in to teach as a last resort)
Working collaboratively with other student supervisors at the Student Life Center on civic engagement activities, regularly meet with the Assistant Director and/or Graduate Assistants
Attending supervisor meetings/workshops/conferences/retreats and any other mandatory meetings.

Required Qualifications
Must be a current, registered full-time SUNY Cortland student
Preferred Qualifications
Upbeat and enthusiastic personality
Great customer service skills
Ability to serve as a mentor to peers
Should have at least one semester of experience working for the Recreational Sports Department as a Personal Trainer or Group Exercise Instructor
Should be certified in Adult CPR/AED and First Aid
Physical Demands
Must be physically fit and able to teach a variety of group exercise classes and/or demonstrate a variety of exercises.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
It is recommended that the candidate has worked for at least one semester as a group exercise instructor or Personal Trainer.
