General Definition And Conditions Of WorkThe Technology Support Technician assists in the maintenance, installation and operation of personal computing devices attached to the wide area network. Responsibilities include traveling throughout the division completing technology work requests assigned in a timely, organized fashion. Troubleshooting a wide variety of devices is necessary and the ability to research, communicate and work well in a team setting is mandatory.
Essential Functions/Typical TasksThe minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
- Troubleshoot computer and related peripheral problems in a TCP\IP protocol environment;
- Install, deliver and configure new technology equipment, computers, Smartboards, Promethean Panels, telephones, faxes, printers and digital equipment;
- Assist in accepting vendor deliveries;
- Hold a valid Virginia Driver’s license;
- Maintain accurate data records;
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Technology, senior IT staff or an appropriate administrator.
Qualifications/Education And ExperienceCandidate must possess an A certification and have had professional working experience repairing personal computing devices running Microsoft operating software in a TCP/IP networking environment. A Dell or HP warranty certification is desirable. Knowledge of Apple products including iPads, Smart Technologies Smartboards, Promethean Panels, HP printers and electronics is beneficial.
Special RequirementsCandidate must possess good moral character.
Physical Demands/RequirementsDuties performed typically in school settings to include: offices, computer labs, and classrooms. Frequent walking, sitting, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment such as technology equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required. Frequent operation of a vehicle and office equipment is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required. Contact with technology professionals may be required. Frequent contact with vendors and other technicians by phone, e-mail, or in person is necessary.
