Position: Classroom Teacher
Reports To:Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
- K-9 endorsement
To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, in accordance with each student ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and health to students in a
learning activities.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate and timely records, and prepares
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping
- Creates and effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee must regularly life and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently life and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally life and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
