The Director of STEM Education Development sits at the innovative core of the STEM Alliance, playing the critical role of developing creative STEM-based curricula and training the next generation of STEM educators.

What you’d be doing

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Curriculum Development for Programs
  • Develop innovative, creative, and fun STEM-based programming for all ages, maintaining the STEM Alliance’s position at the forefront of STEM enrichment education. The STEM Alliance Curriculum Portfolio includes lesson plans, accompanying materials and cross sectional units of exploration.
  • Develop curricular goals and conduct regular evaluations of program implementation and overall quality to assure that curriculum goals are being met.
  • Develop and maintain a research database for use in developing, reviewing, and updating curricula.
  • Maintain an online system for sharing and organizing curricula to share with educators.
  • Professional Development and Training
  • Manage, mentor and oversee training of educators using best practices of professional development.
  • Provide in-class support and coaching to educators with a wide range of experience; leverage multiple coaching approaches, including:
  • coaching on pedagogical strategies, 
  • connecting to outside speakers and resources, and 
  • modeling classroom activities and lessons.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ensure that all team members complete their staff evaluations in a timely manner. 
  • A leadership role, which includes working with novice teachers to acclimate, provide advice related to planning and instruction.
  • Departmental Management
  • Contribute to setting departmental and organizational strategic priorities, goals and objectives with tracking.
  • Collaborate with Department Leadership on annual Department budget development.
  • Meet all deliverables with joint responsibility from all departmental co-workers ranging from hourly staff through to C-Suite.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator on the execution and delivery of contracts including project budgets.
  • Work with Chief Programs Officer to identify, recruit, and lead a team of educators and other departmental staff.
  • Contribute to, oversee & implement processes & procedures for department.
  • Effectively collaborate across internal teams and with external partners to achieve all goals and objectives.

What you bring

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is warm, friendly and values teamwork. We would hope that you are looking to expand your personal and professional goals. Also significant is that you have a desire to serve others and learn how STEM Education and Digital Equity are creating a ladder of opportunity for all. Lastly, we would need you to be able to complete tasks independently and in a timely manner.

We see these as expected core skills:

  • A minimum of 4 years of successful classroom teaching experience teaching
  • Previous experience writing differentiated curriculum, coaching, facilitating and presenting to other classroom teachers
  • Language and/or cultural competency, including past work with diverse learners, in order to effectively design culturally responsive curriculum
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret program data with a detail oriented mindset
  • An innovative spirit—you like getting your hands dirty - and have an intense ability to learn quickly while crafting new, forward looking projects
  • Eagerness to mentor next generation nonprofit leaders and STEM educators
  • Confidence with technology and savvy enough to learn new software such as Asana, Google Workspace, Canva, Sign Up Genius, Paylocity.

  • A gift for multitasking in a way that leverages problem solving, being solution oriented and flexible
  • A desire to work in a job where you can make a difference in the lives of people and the community
  • A goal of working with employees that enjoy each others’ time and company
  • Teaching certification including an undergraduate or graduate degree in education, curriculum development and/or the sciences
  • Strong interpersonal skills that prioritize mutual respect, patience and cooperative relationships
