STEMNetX.org is Hiring a Student Intern Near Pittsburgh, PA

We are searching for two interns at the college level. A social media marketing intern and a theater and content creation intern. Read below for two separate descriptions.

Job Title: Social Media Marketing Intern

Job Summary: The Social Media Marketing Intern is responsible for creating a campaign strategy that works within the algorithm confines of different social media platforms to help promote a “fundamentals in quantum” skit series.

About Us: Our nonprofit parent organization, the Chance to Change Lives (CCL-US), was formed to address some of the challenges facing students from underserved communities. We engage in a ‘pay-it-forward’ model to mentor and develop the next generation of leaders and knowledge creators in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. CCL-US launched the STEMNetX initiative in 2021 to begin to bridge the gaps in access to resources, awareness, capacity, and social capital. STEMNetX has since rolled out a successful Fellowship Program and is quickly expanding with new and exciting projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Social Media Management

  1. Platform Management:
  • Identify the most suitable social media platforms (e.g., YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) for distributing the skits.
  • Manage and update the organization’s social media profiles with the new content.
  1. Content Scheduling:
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to schedule the release of the skits.
  • Ensure consistent posting to maintain audience engagement.
  1. SEO and Hashtag Strategy:
  • Research and implement SEO best practices to enhance the discoverability of the skits.
  • Use relevant hashtags and keywords to increase visibility and reach.

Engagement and Community Management Responsibilities

  1. Audience Interaction:
  • Engage with the audience by responding to comments, questions, and feedback on social media platforms.
  • Foster a sense of community and encourage discussions around the scientific content.
  1. Analytics and Reporting:
  • Monitor the performance of the skits using social media analytics tools.
  • Provide regular reports on metrics such as views, likes, shares, comments, and audience demographics.
  1. Feedback and Improvement:
  • Gather feedback from the audience and stakeholders to refine and improve future skits.
  • Implement changes based on data-driven insights to enhance engagement and effectiveness.

Marketing and Promotion Responsibilities

  1. Campaign Development:
  • Develop marketing campaigns to promote the skits, including teaser videos, trailers, and promotional graphics.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Currently pursuing and declared for a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and/or Digital Media.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience posting and monitoring a social media account.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in YouTube shorts and Instagram reels, exposure to analytics software.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Remote.
  • Expected 2-5 hours of work/week. 

Performance Metrics:

  • Growth in social media followers and engagement.
  • Increase in website traffic and conversion rates.

Compensation:

  • $17/hr as aligned with market assessments for interns in this profession.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the Program Director of STEMNetX.
  • Supervises a highschool intern.

Job Title: Theater and Content Creation Intern

Job Summary: The Theater and Content Creation Intern is responsible for helping create and refine the content of a “fundamentals in quantum” skit series we will feature on YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. The content itself will be created by our 2024 STEMNetX Fellowship Class.

Pre-Production Responsibilities:

Script Development:

  • Collaborate with scientists to develop engaging and accurate scripts that effectively communicate the scientific concepts.
  • Ensure the scripts are clear, concise, and suitable for the target audience.
  • Incorporate theatrical elements to make the content engaging.

Conceptualization:

  • Develop creative concepts and ideas for the skits that align with the educational goals.
  • Plan the visual and dramatic style of the skits to enhance understanding.

Rehearsals:

  • Schedule and lead rehearsals, providing guidance on performance, timing, and delivery.
  • Offer feedback to ensure the skits are polished and effective.

Production Responsibilities:

Directing:

  • Work with the Program Director to direct the performances, ensuring that scientists deliver their lines clearly and effectively.
  • Guide the pacing, tone, and energy of the skits to maintain audience engagement.

Blocking and Staging:

  • Plan and coordinate the movements and positioning of scientists in front of the camera.
  • Ensure that the staging supports the clarity and impact of the scientific content.

Technical Coordination:

  • Manage lighting, sound, and any multimedia elements.
  • Ensure that all technical aspects are aligned with the vision of the skits.

Post-Production Responsibilities:

Editing:

  • Assist in the editing process to ensure that the final product is cohesive and impactful.
  • Provide input on cuts, transitions, and the integration of any special effects or graphics.

Feedback and Revision:

  • Gather feedback from test audiences or stakeholders and make necessary revisions.
  • Ensure that the final skits meet the educational objectives and are scientifically accurate.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Currently pursuing and declared for a Bachelor’s degree in Theater/Stage Production.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in theater production, directing or lead performers preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Understanding lighting and sound, an idea of how to edit content.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • On-site
  • Expected 2-5 hours of work/week. 

Performance Metrics:

  • Skits that are performing well.
  • If they’re not, adjusting the strategy for the next round of skits.
  • Good interaction with the scientists.

Compensation:

  • $17/hr as aligned with market assessments for interns in this profession.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the Program Director of STEMNetX.
  • Supervises a highschool intern.
