Job Summary:

The Construction Safety Specialist is accountable for establishing, implementing, managing, and supporting safety program requirements for specific engineering and construction projects for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This person will serve as a subject matter expert on construction safety for the local Environmental Health & Safety and Engineering teams.

Job Duties:

• Facilitate and coordinate external vendors for construction activities.
• Assist with job hazard analysis reviews for assigned projects.
• Conduct regular site inspections for health and safety compliance and make recommendations to management when necessary.
• Communicate cross-functionally with project teams, including engineers and general contractors.
• Making safety decisions within the project.
• Ensure that practices are within compliance with local county, state and company EHS requirements.
• Deliver safety training to contract workforce.
• Track third-party construction and maintenance vendor compliance and EHS performance using the contractor management compliance system.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• 5 years of experience with Health & Safety within the construction industry.
• A thorough understanding of construction materials and construction practices.
• Knowledgeable of California OSHA Construction Industry and General Industry regulations
• OSHA 30 Hour certification is needed.
• Certified Safety Professional is preferred
• Proficient with the management of high-risk activities including electrical safety, excavation, confined spaces, fall protection, material handling, rigging and crane operations.
• Communication and problem solving on cross functional teams which includes engagement with general contractors, sub-contractors, EHS, Facilities and project engineers.
