Summary
The safety coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of hundreds of team members in our plants each day. Whether working in the production line or in the warehouse. You'll work alongside supervisors and leaders to advance our policies, programs, and procedures governing safe work practices and promote our 24/7 culture of care.
Overview
Implementing safe working practices and ensuring the well-being of everyone is a core value of Sterling Foods. Safety coordinators are responsible for assisting in the administration of Sterling Foods' Safety, Health and Environmental programs to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all employees.
Responsibilities
- Report and support Safety Manger
- Respond to employees' safety concerns
- Assist with incident duties
- Daily facility walk-through
- Assist with safety investigating incidents
- Co-facilitate NEO training on Saturdays or another day
- Conduct safety/quality inspections and submit WO's
- Respond to emergencies (medical, fire, weather, spill)
- Coordinate registration and removal of hazardous waste per manager instruction
- Address unsafe act and conditions
- Address the use of GMP's and safety rules
- Distribute items for maintenance and production departments
- Inspect safety items and personal protective equipment (heat resistant gloves, ear protection, cut resistant gloves, sleeves, respirators, cooling vests, safety glasses, FA kits, cold/ heat gloves, clean filters at water stations monthly, aprons, hairnets and matts/ shoe insert labeling and retention program)
- Organize/schedule annual health fair and flu vaccinations
- Help with quarterly quality & safety R&R
- Update safety board in the production and break rooms
- Conduct equipment inspections (eye wash, fire extinguishers, emergency exits)
- Conduct safety training
- Blades changes
- Track safety training
- Conduct behavior observations on all shifts (GMP, Safety Shoe, PIT PM, Safe driving)
- Attend required training courses
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to build interpersonal relationships with internal team members
- Commitment to safety and the ability to anticipate and problem solve
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use technology: Computer skills, tables
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
