GENERAL SUMMARY

The Fuel Procurement Specialist is responsible for acquiring biomass for the plant to ensure a reliable and consistent fuel supply. Fuel procurement is a crucial function that contributes to the overall success of plant operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The listed job responsibilities provide typical examples of the tasks carried out by the Fuel Procurement Specialist. This position may involve additional duties, and requirements may vary.

  • Manage and administer all fuel contracts for the plant
  • Evaluate and purchase the required amount of biomass fuel for the plant
  • Identify and develop fuel suppliers for the plant, exploring both existing and new supply opportunities
  • Gather market intelligence concerning new and existing supply, and stay updated on developments in the wood basin
  • Optimize spot fuel purchases and contractual commitments to meet the plant's budget
  • Negotiate and draft short-term and long-term fuel supply agreements that align with company guidelines
  • Build and maintain relationships with biomass fuel suppliers, influencing and educating them on quality standards to ensure cost-effective fuel that meets regulations
  • Keep communication with plant operations management to ensure fuel inventories meet operational needs
  • Collaborate with plant operations management to ensure procured fuel is compatible with plant operations and regulatory requirements
  • Track and monitor fuel costs
  • Review and approve invoices for fuel purchases
  • Create quarterly and annual fuel reports, including budget forecasts
  • Generate reports documenting plant fuel diversion and emissions offset requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

This position is an individual contributor role and does not involve managing staff.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Fuel Procurement Specialist reports to the Plant Manager and works closely with other members of the management team.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in forestry, business, economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience in procurement is required
  • Experience in wood fuel or biomass, fiber, timber procurement in the paper, lumber, or biomass industry is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the ability to generate spreadsheets, reports, and business correspondence
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to gather and analyze information from multiple sources
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously with minimal direction
  • Preferably holds a college degree in business or forestry
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel up to 60% of the time
