StevenDouglas has been retained for an outstanding Controller career opportunity in Arlington, Texas. Our client, a successful and growing commercial construction and maintenance services firm is seeking a high caliber CPA with costing experience who brings prior controller experience with an entrepreneurial mindset. Reporting directly to CFO, the Controller is responsible for supporting management planning and decision making by ensuring accurate financials, identifying, maintaining, and evaluating critical financial and operational controls, overseeing all accounting functions. The controller provides accurate and timely financial data to the various levels of management. They will provide controllership over month-end and year-end financial reporting processes, all while they ensure timely and accurate financial statements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the activities of the general accounting/finance group, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, general ledger, fixed assets, joint ventures, and cash flow
  • Job costing
  • Review work orders to ensure that costs are accurately captured, research and explain Job Cost Variance to Standard Cost
  • Creates continuous accounting processes and procedures to ensure timely accounting, analysis, reconciliation. Reviews work with team to ensure timely issue identification and resolution.
  • Execute a structured and detailed month-end process and other financial reporting processes and ensure timely and accurate input from departmental staff, target closing all relevant subledgers, AR with review and analysis occurring throughout.
  • Maintain and monitor all internal controls and ensure safeguards for receipt of revenue costs and project budgets and expenditures.
  • Provide financial analysis and month-end reporting to management.
  • Oversee all accounting processes.
  • Motivate and manage accounting team.
  • Identify cost saving projects, including meeting and brainstorming with Department Heads and team members on efficiency and productivity, recommendation of advanced accounting procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, PWP, Excel, Outlook)

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION:

  • Education: BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related filed
  • CPA required
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting and experience in the construction industry
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, cost control principles including GAAP required
  • Ability to explain complex procedures/practices to non-accounting staff
  • Demonstrated strength in construction accounting – cost, POC, WIP
  • Strong job costing experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and management skills
  • Creative thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Solid track record of effective management or supervision of team members

This role offers a base salary to $150k with an annual bonus and benefit package. Potential for career growth!

*Hybrid 4/1 schedule - Monday through Thursday in office.
