Position Summary
The Student Assistant works as a member of a team to support the operations of the library. Responsibilities vary by position, and duties can include answering questions in person and over the phone, using library software, managing projects, assisting with library technologies, and creating library promotions.
Education / Experience Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University academically and judicially.

- Previous experience in a library or office is desirable but not required.
Physical Requirements Medium work. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking,pushing, pulling, lifting, keyboarding, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, andcommunication in English.
Close visual acuity. Subject to inside environmental conditions. Notsubstantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Essential Functions The essential functions performed will vary with the priorities and activities of the assignedlibrary location and operational area.
Student Reference and Circulation
- Staff the main information and reference desk
- Provide patron assistance and instruction; answer questions in person, via phone, and via online chat reference service
- Record statistics and headcounts
- Communicate problems and issues to supervisor in a timely manner
- Work independently and at times managing the library
- This position reports to one or more of the Research and Instruction Librarians
- Work hours include weekdays and weekends. Employees should expect to work a consistent weekday / weekday evening schedule with rotating weekend shifts assigned throughout the semester.
Student Technical Services
- Learn to use library software systems.
- Assist with managing collections by shelving, re-shelving, collecting usage information, updating, repairing, and inventorying collections.
- Process new materials, maintain, and update print and other physical collections
- Process and shelve serials (journals, magazines, newspapers, etc.) including receiving mail
- Update serials records in the Library catalog
- Prepare materials to be added to library collections
- Repair and update items in the collections
- Work on special projects with library systems
- This position reports to the Collection Development and Electronic Resources Librarian and / or the Systems Librarian
- Work hours are generally on weekdays and the schedule is determined by the employee and supervisor
Student Social Media and Marketing
- Assist with managing social media campaigns
- Create social media posts
- Create branding and marketing materials
- Experience in design and using design tools is essential
- This position reports to the Research and Instruction Librarian
- Work hours are generally on weekdays and the schedule is determined by the employee and supervisor
