Region 4 Education Service Center is Hiring an Education Specialist I, Behavior Support Near Houston, TX

This is a fully grant-funded position. Employment is contingent on annual grant funding.

Classification: Admin/Prof

Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional

Job Grade: 4

Department: Office of Emergency Management and School Safety

Reports To: Coordinator

Job Goal:

Provide professional development and services, develop products, and participate in special project activities in the area(s) of responsibility that support the ESC's core purpose and strategic goals.

Qualifications:

Education

Master's degree

Certification/Licensure

Texas Educator Certificate or professional license/certificate in related field

Experience

* Three years of experience in campus and/or district leadership position(s) related to effective classroom management strategies and Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior management programs

* Five years of teaching or related experience in special education supporting students with behavioral needs

* Experience implementing best practices of PBIS

* Experience developing and presenting professional development

Special Knowledge and Skills

* Broad-based knowledge in rules and regulations related to special education

* Broad-based knowledge of the critical elements of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) framework

* General knowledge of behavioral principles

* Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

* Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritize

* Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can learn quickly and assimilate many details

* Proficient with computers to include desktop management, file management, working in a network environment, and using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

* Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of program materials and information

* Self-motivated to ensure high levels of quality, professionalism, and effectiveness

Desired Qualifications:

* Experience working as a teacher in a behavior program or supporting teachers in behavior programs

* Experience in campus or district-wide implementation of PBIS

Major Responsibilities:

* Provide professional development, technical assistance, support services, and participate in special project activities in the areas of Emergency Management and School Safety that support Region 4's core purpose and strategic goals.

* Engage in professional development to maintain knowledge and skills in the area of behavior support services.

* Keep current with state and federal rules, regulations, and policies related behavior support services.

* Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating professional development, and services in the area of school behavior support services.

* Participate in developing communication networks between Region 4 and customer personnel.

* Support or lead School Behavior Support Networks

* Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating professional development, services, and products in the area(s) of responsibility.

* Assist with planning and implementation of ongoing needs assessment and services in the area of effective evidence-based classroom management strategies for Region 4 customer districts.

* Assist with planning and implementation of ongoing needs assessment and services in the area of Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior management programs in the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework for Region 4 customer districts.

* Assist with planning and implementation of ongoing needs assessment and services in the area of evidence-based practices of PBIS and implementation of best practices for culturally diverse populations. Including alternatives to disproportionate disciplinary practices.

* Participate in developing communication networks between Region 4 customer district personnel.

* Assist in planning and developing special project activities, e.g., grant proposals, interdepartmental services, demonstration sites, research studies and other customer- based projects.

* Participate in interagency agency activities and assist with implementation of statewide initiatives and/or directives.

* Provide technical assistance and services as specified by any applicable federal grant that funds this position.

Frequent use of standard office equipment; prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions (keyboarding and use of mouse); occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may work prolonged and irregular hours; occasional statewide travel; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure.
