The primary purpose of the position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local regulations & standards, as well as facility guidelines and policies and as may be directed by the Dietary Supervisor to assure that quality food service is provided at all times while delivering on the Eduro Healthcare Values of wellness, compassion, customer experience and company results.

Food Preparation and Cleaning Responsibilities

• In the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, it is necessary for you to direct the operation of the kitchen. Must be able to plan ahead, delegate, and work efficiently with minimum supervision.
• Must be able to cook a wide variety of foods in large quantities following prescribed recipes, and be able to cook special diets and textures using proper food exchanges.
• Prepare food by following standardized recipes and menus, as approved, and exercise good judgment in food quantities, portion control, and timely preparation.
• Coordinate the service of food ensuring that tray preparation follows prescribed menus, and resident likes and dislikes are honored, whenever possible.
• Must have a working knowledge of cooking techniques, be familiar with seasonings, and must be able to consistently prepare food that is delicious and attractive.
• Be able to plan ahead for future menus (i.e. thaw meat, desserts, etc.)
• Assist with special activities, parties, picnics, etc. in planning, food preparation, and service. This requires good knowledge and judgment of people, getting to know families, planning well in advance, and the ability to successfully deal with stressful situations.
• Must know how to properly and safely utilize all kitchen equipment and appliances, and be responsible for its proper care.
• Help clean up after each meal and do assigned cleaning tasks to maintain a sanitary, well organized, orderly work place. The cleaning of equipment and appliances and the work area must be cleaned in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations.
• Check existing inventory and make a list of food and supplies needed, place the order, and upon arrival, assist in putting everything away in proper storage.
• Complete paperwork as requested, or as needed.
• Invite and arrange for families to eat with their related resident periodically.

Education and Experience

• Experience working with geriatric patients is preferred and may be required
• Previous cooking experience is required.
• Must be able to prepare food that is nutritionally balanced, attractive and delicious.
