Overview:

Stone Academy is a nonprofit, special education school whose mission is to educate students on the Autism Spectrum and those with similar learning differences in a safe and welcoming environment. We believe in the potential of every child and that learning should be fun! We provide a positive place to learn.

We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Tutor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with neurodiverse students, such as those on the Autism Spectrum and with similar learning differences including Attention Deficit Disorder, Anxiety/Avoidance, Central Auditory Processing Disorder, Executive Functioning Disorder, as well as Visual and Tactile Learners. The ideal candidate for this position should have a passion for creating a safe, nurturing and positive environment where students can learn and grow.

As a Tutor at Stone Academy, you will work with students with special needs and help them achieve academic success. You will provide them with moral support and 1:1 instruction in their homes.

- Tutoring takes place at the student's home

- Earn $25-$35 per hour (depending upon experience)

- 10-20 hours per month

Responsibilities:

- Conduct 1:1 tutoring sessions with students with students who have special education needs

- Develop customized lesson plans and teaching strategies that align with each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

- Adapt Instructional methods, materials, and assessments to cater to the unique learning styles and requirements for each student.

- Monitor and document student's progress, making adjustments to instructional techniques as needed.

- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and special education teams to ensure a cohesive and supportive educational experience.

- Maintain open and regular communication with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and address any concerns.

- Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment that supports the emotional and behavioral development of students.

- Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in special education and incorporate them into your teaching.

Skills:

- Proficient in lesson planning tailored to individual student needs
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Experience in curriculum development for special education programs
- Ability to educate and support students with diverse learning requirements

- Some experience with Behavioral Therapy or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) will prove helpful in this position, but if none, training can be provided by Stone Academy

Requirements:

- Ability to commute to/from Hayward, CA

- Previous experience with special education, accommodations, and working with students with learning disabilities- REQUIRED

- Credentialed Special Education Teacher- Highly Preferred

- Bachelor's degree

- Ability to make learning fun and interactive

- Ability to pass a background check if required
