Associate Accountant
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics. Knowledge of accounting including reconciliations, financial analysis and various report preparations. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience with Microsoft Excel or a similar tool to include but not limited to V-Lookup, Pivot Tables, Macros.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least one (1) year of full time current, responsible financial accounting experience. Query tool experience. Experience with PeopleSoft Financial module, particularly Accounts Payable, Procurement, Accounts Receivable or General Ledger modules.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Associate Accountant will assist the Stony Brook Foundation staff with all phases of corporate accounting and finance, including but not limited to: reconciliations, analysis and report preparation. The Associate Accountant will also assist with the preparation, analysis, and reconciling of business transactions on a daily, monthly, and annual basis, including supporting year end audit and tax compliance reporting. This position plays a foundational role in ensuring that all department financial operations are executed in accordance with Foundation policies and procedures. The incumbent will have experience working with, and maintaining, confidential information. They will also have experience effectively multi-tasking with a high degree of accuracy, organization and professional communication.
• Performs basic accounting functions and reviews and appraises financial data necessary for reconciliation, analysis and reporting preparation. Journal entry functions will be required, as well.
• Basic analysis, preparation, and reconciliations of business transactional activities on a daily, monthly and annual basis.
• Carry out assigned steps in accounting analysis to resolve account and business-related problems and discrepancies and follow up with departments and related parties, if required.
• Support year end audit and tax compliance reporting activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
Special Notes:
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
