What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Stony Brook University?
NIH funded postdoctoral positions are available in the growth regulation laboratory in the Department of Pharmacological Sciences at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine, to study regulation of Hippo signaling in development and cancer. The postdoctoral scholar will lead projects to elucidate how the pathway is regulated by upstream factors during Drosophila Development. In addition, we are also interested in understanding the biochemical mechanisms that regulate the core pathway and developing novel compounds to inhibit this pathway in human cancers. In terms of methodology, we use multidisciplinary approaches including Drosophila genetics, fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, protein chemistry and Chemical Biology.
Long Island's premier academic medical center, Stony Brook Medicine is hours away from the New York City and close to pristine beaches and nature preserves. The University has a highly interactive environment with state-of-the-art core facilities (mass spectrometry, cytometry, microscopy, biophysics and structural biology). Competitive stipends and benefits packages are available.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Genetics, Developmental biology, Biochemistry Biology, or Chemistry with 0-2 years of postdoctoral experience. Must have at least 1 first author publication in peer reviewed journals.
DESIRED SKILLS
Applicant should be highly self-motivated and highly organized. Should be competent in or willing to learn Drosophila genetics, dissection, immunostaining and confocal microscopy and molecular biology (PCR, cloning, and site-directed mutagenesis, RT-PCR). Experience with mammalian cell culture, expression and purification of proteins (E. coli, yeast, and mammalian cells). Experience with Chemical Biology, structural biology and biophysical techniques is desirable.
