Job Description

The Individual Giving Assistant reports to the Associate Director, Individual Giving, and will work closely with the Individual Giving team, providing support as needed to the Director of Development and the Membership Manager. This role is responsible for supporting the Associate Director with implementation of Storm King’s giving programs and initiatives. Projects within these programs include donor solicitations and recognition, cultivation events, mailings, research, and maintaining relationships in the Blackbaud database, Altru.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Individual Giving Assistant’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Working closely with the Director of Development and Associate Director of Individual Giving in assisting with the general stewardship and fulfillment of the Storm King Council Membership, Annual Fund, Restricted Projects, Trustee relations and other donor support.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of cultivation events for the Storm King Council Members, Storm King Trustees, Restricted Project supporters, and others.
  • Coordinating and supporting private tours of the Art Center for all individual donors including Council Members, major donors, and prospective supporters.
  • Assist with planning and execution of the annual Travel Program for Trustees and major donors.
  • Coordinating acquisitions and renewals for the Annual Fund, Storm King Council, Restricted Projects, Storm King Trustees, and other major donor support.
  • Preparing donor gift correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Updating and maintaining donor records within the database, as well as optimizing the database as a tool for donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Conducting research on current and prospective donors, including using the fundraising intelligence software, iWave.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual donor listing, which includes a donor wall and recognition on the Art Center’s website and throughout various print materials.
  • Attending departmental and/or cross-departmental meetings with or in place of the Associate Director, Individual Giving or Director of Development.
  • Providing day-to-day administrative support for the Individual Giving team, including arranging timed ticket reservations for donors, fulfilling donor benefits, and responding to inquiries from members and donors.
  • Attending Board Committee meetings at Storm King, in New York City, or virtually on request and taking meeting minutes.
  • Coordinating with other Departments on the creation of marketing materials and other deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of related experience, preferably in a non-profit organization in fundraising, or in direct sales and customer service. Internships can be considered as acceptable experience.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising databases required, preferably a Blackbaud product.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent follow-through, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and handle projects simultaneously.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet research, and administrative office procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Works occasional evenings and weekend events or tours.
  • Ability to work in an office environment, maneuver outdoors (in all weather conditions) on the 500-acre site, hills, grass, and gravel pathways.
  • Occasional travel required to NYC and within the Hudson Valley region for meetings and special events, and for the Travel Program.
  • Frequently sits for long periods of time.
  • Frequently speaks, reads, writes, and uses a computer keyboard.
  • May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending.
  • Requires operating a golf cart, with training.
