Stratford Academy is the oldest independent, non-sectarian college preparatory school in Middle Georgia. It opened its doors in September 1960 in the historic Overlook Mansion (now the Woodruff House) on Coleman Hill in historic downtown Macon. Now located on a beautiful 107-acre campus on Peake Road, the school provides a challenging and supportive learning environment. Position Summary

The Stratford Academy Lower School seeks a Spanish teacher for grades Beginner’s through 5. The teacher is responsible for teaching and assuming other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Create and plan scaffolded lessons
• Incorporate project-based learning, educational technology, and universal design principles into lessons
• Collaborate with colleagues, the Director of Academic Affairs, and the Heads of Preschool and Lower School to incorporate multicultural education and a scaffolded curriculum into the Spanish curriculum.
• Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, compassion, and respect
• Participate in all division activities and meetings
• Teach an elective during the Student Life period in Lower School
• Collaborate with colleagues within grades Beginners – 5 grade, the foreign language department, the Student Support Team, and the Learning Resources Department
• Perform duties such as supervising dismissal, teaching a class period during the Lower School Student Life, assisting with Open House in both divisions,
• Maintain all documentation connected with the curriculum and assessments.
• Attend faculty meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related subject
• Enthusiasm and communication skills to engage students and build meaningful relationships.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills to facilitate learning in a healthy learning environment
• Ability to perform critical thinking, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving with minimal supervision
• Ability to serve in a diverse community of colleagues, students, and parents

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education or related subject
• Teaching certification
