Structural Integrity Associates is Hiring a Materials/Metallurgical Engineer Near Austin, TX

Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SIA), an engineering consulting firm dedicated to the analysis and prevention of mechanical and structural failures for a variety of industries, is seeking a candidate for a Materials/Metallurgical Engineering position to provide metallurgical and failure analysis services. The successful candidate will be based in SIA’s Material Science Center in Austin, Texas. Although this is a laboratory-based position, the job may also include occasional materials-related technical support on field projects that SIA conducts in power generation facilities and various other industrial environments. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Review client needs related to failed or damaged metal components (tubing, pipes, pump and valve components, turbine components, mechanical devices, and various other industrial equipment components)
  • Develop proposals for providing condition assessment or failure analysis services
  • Manage metallurgical laboratory projects through coordination of work scopes, interacting with lab technicians, reviewing and interpreting results, and preparing reports to provide findings and recommendations
  • Provide materials support to assist SIA’s experienced teams of engineering staff that
    • Provide consulting services to nuclear, fossil, and renewable energy clients
    • Manage root cause analysis investigations
    • Provide asset management and condition assessment services
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
  • PE license or have an identified path toward PE licensure
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task on different projects in a sometimes fast-paced environment
  • Willing to learn through experience and interaction with established industry experts
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in materials or metallurgy
  • 5 or more years of experience related to Material Science
  • Experience in destructive laboratory testing, metallography, and failure analysis for power/industrial clients
