SUMMARY
The officer is responsible for presiding over and delivering impartial school discipline hearings. The officer will liaise with the Department of Student Relations in order to identify, support, and forward disciplinary decisions that are restorative and redemptive for all involved.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in Education related and/or Law field
Five years teaching experience or a related field
Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing student attendance and discipline
Current Arizona driver’s license
Knowledge of policies and legislation regarding the formal discipline of Exceptional Education and 504 Students
Experience working with diverse populations
Ability to effectively communicate with school staff, students and parents
Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of how discipline issues impact the school, the community, parents, and students
Experience and/or knowledge of restorative practices
Current Administrative certificate
A strong understanding of Tucson Unified School District’s (TUSD) Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook
A strong understanding of TUSD Governing Board Policy as it relates to student discipline.
Experience working in the Legal Profession
Bilingual
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
FBI fingerprint background check
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization
Must be able to provide own transportation to district schools where hearings will be held
Must hold a current Driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance coverage greater than or equal to the state required minimum for car insurance as described under Governing Board Policy: EEB-R-1 Business and Personnel Transportation Services - Transportation by Employees
