Student Senate for California Community Colleges is Hiring a Communications and Engagement Coordinator Near Sacramento, CA

The SSCCC is seeking a proactive and strategic Communications and Engagement Coordinator with extensive experience in outreach, relationship-building, and leadership development. This role is pivotal in expanding our membership base, fostering student leadership, and driving impactful advocacy campaigns.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive outreach and recruitment strategies targeting student communities affected by educational policies.
  • Create and deploy effective communication materials and strategies tailored to engage diverse student populations.
  • Coordinate college-to-college outreach, phone campaigns, and social media initiatives to expand SSCCC participation and maintain relationships with current members.
  • Cultivate strong relationships among members and regions to promote ownership and commitment to SSCCC initiatives.
  • Identify and cultivate emerging student leaders within the organization.
  • Collaborate with SSCCC Board members to organize workshops, training sessions, and strategic meetings that empower students as critical thinkers and change agents.
  • Support ongoing leadership development through coaching and capacity-building activities.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of issue-oriented campaigns aligned with SSCCC’s long-term goals.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of student contacts and track metrics related to member involvement.
  • Represent SSCCC at collaborative meetings, coalitions, and community forums as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor student interns to support their professional growth.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a community organizer, demonstrating measurable outcomes such as membership growth, leadership development, and campaign success.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and teamwork within diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in designing and facilitating workshops and training sessions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, active listening ability, patience, and humor.
  • Proficiency in leveraging social media platforms and digital communication strategies to engage and mobilize diverse audiences effectively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet organizational needs and community engagement opportunities.
