Stuf is Hiring a Construction Manager Near New York, NY

Construction & Facilities Manager

About Stuf

Stuf is a next-generation self-storage startup delivering modern, tech-enabled storage solutions closer to consumers and businesses. We are proud to be the home away from home for people's stuff. Traditional options are out of the way and inconvenient, so we’re building a hyperlocal storage network by monetizing basements, garages, and other underutilized spaces in your neighborhood. We take a hospitality-driven approach to delivering a best-in-class member experience powered by proprietary technology.

Today, our network spans San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, Washington, DC and Atlanta. We have big plans to accelerate our growth and expand our network over the next few years.

Stuf was recognized by Fast Company as a Most Innovative Company for 2022. We’ve raised venture funding from Altos Ventures, Harlem Capital, Wilshire Lane Partners, and Good Friends, and our founder was named to Inc.'s 2022 Female Founders 100 List. We dream big, communicate openly, show up for our teammates, and do whatever it takes to get it done.

About the role

Real estate is core to our business, and you share our passion for reinventing consumer experiences in the “built” world. As Construction and Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for managing projects from initial planning and design to launch and ongoing operation. You will source and manage vendor relationships, conduct due diligence on new projects, develop and manage budgets, develop scalable processes, and lead cross-functional efforts to launch new locations while also overseeing facilities management across our entire national network.

As an early team member, you will have a rare opportunity to build and define the business from the ground up. This is a unique chance to execute major expansion in an entrepreneurial role with significant growth potential, and your work will redefine the self-storage industry for years to come. You value organization and are a natural multi-tasker with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at different stages. You are scrappy, creative, and love doing what others say can’t be done. You also understand how your business decisions impact the broader business both financially and operationally.

We look for people who take initiative and thrive in small, highly collaborative teams. The ideal candidate cares about the details (but can see the bigger picture) and delivers high quality work in a fast-paced environment. He/she/they has experience with construction project management, a strong work ethic, and is eager to learn and grow.

This role is based in New York City and will report to our Senior Director of Operations. Join us today!

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction project management end-to-end, delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Conduct site tours and prepare initial due diligence reports and preliminary budgets
  • Partner with the real estate and design teams to move projects through the pipeline, optimize location design, assess risks, prepare investment committee memos, and execute our expansion plans
  • Manage all construction administration activities, including: contract administration, procurement, estimation, pay requests, change orders, requests for information, cost control, scheduling, tracking submittals, safety controls, national vendor management and more
  • Oversee facilities management and develop new systems and processes to ensure a best-in-class operation and member experience
  • Source and manage vendors by maintaining strong and open lines of communication for active, upcoming, and open locations
  • Onboard and engage with our landlord partners and their property teams to coordinate construction, launch, and ongoing maintenance
  • Drive key company initiatives and develop tools and processes that help us scale efficiently and predictably
  • Identify and evaluate technology solutions and other innovative ideas to elevate our product
  • Maintain a cross-functional feedback loop to continuously improve member experience, operations, and launch processes
  • Take on roles we haven’t hired yet
  • Create a fun, authentic, and dynamic company culture

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of construction management experience, ideally in-house
  • Experience with construction administration (budgeting, contracts, procurement, etc.) and facilities management
  • Experience managing multiple projects at once with overlapping timelines
  • Strong proficiency and ability with technology, CRM software, and Excel / Google sheets
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent judgment, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time

Amazing if you have it!

  • Scaling a startup from early to late stage
  • Experience in startups and/or proptech
  • Experience with consumer-facing real estate businesses (i.e. self-storage, coworking, coliving, hotels, etc.)

Perks:

In addition to our incredible and experienced team, there are many other reasons to come work with us.
