Summit Academy Management is Hiring a Regional Director, Special Education Near Akron, OH

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Southern Regional Special Education Director will be responsible for overseeing that school staff comply with and properly implement IDIEA rules and regulations. The Southern Regional Special Education Director is responsible for the ‘bigger picture’ of service, especially for, but not limited to, those students receiving services via IEP’s. Duties would include assisting in the development of school-wide, classroom, and individual student behavior programming; identifying services to address the needs of students with disabilities; and training at a system-wide level to ensure that services are provided with consistent high quality across the region. The Southern Regional Special Education Director would provide direct supervision and monitoring of special education building leadership staff. Clinical supervision would be provided weekly to clinically licensed Behavior Specialists and Performance Coaches. This individual would be responsible for the development and delivery of clinical trainings.

EMPLOYMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree and licensure as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (preference is to have the supervisory credential) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (preference is to have the supervisory credential).
  • Ability to generate, record, and maintain information and statistical data
  • Familiarity with Special Education concepts
  • Familiarity with Special Education policies and regulations of the Ohio Department of Education, of the United States Department of Education (including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and No Child Left Behind), and of Summit Academy Management, Inc.
  • Ability to become familiar with instructional methods and materials that would be applicable to Summit Academy Special Education students
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with:
    • Summit Academy students
    • Summit Academy staff and to effectively work with them in a collaborative manner
    • parents, as well as those in the community
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of student records and school business
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and software utilized at Summit Academy
  • Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implementation of IEP’s and compliance with IDIEA rules and regulations.
    • Responsible for attending necessary trainings, informational meetings, and in-services related to changes in SPED rules, regulations, policy, or procedures.
    • Provide system-wide training for all building-level staff regarding policy and procedure changes necessary to comply with IDIEA and ODE guidelines.
  • Service Development.
    • Assist in the development of differentiated services to address the needs of students.
      • Services developed would address student needs including, but not be limited to:
      • adaptive behavior;
      • reading dysfunction;
      • poor academic performance; and
      • speech/motor delays
    • Consultation with Speech/Language Services providers, and supervision of Occupational Therapy providers to ensure integrated, developmentally appropriate model of service is provided.
    • Develop a consistent mechanism for collecting and analyzing data related to the IEP from schools, including but not limited to:
      • Training for building level staff regarding the collection and use of data, including:
      • teacher/mentor training regarding the proper use of forms for data collection; and
      • IEP Coordinator/IEP Differentiated Specialist training regarding writing IEP goals which are objective and can be measured using the data collection system.
  • Identify, supervise and train special education building leadership staff:
    • Review staffing needs at existing schools and consult with Building Director and Regional Director to identify openings
    • Develop and provide training for special education building leadership staff, to include development and delivery of clinical workshops
    • Provide consultation and supervision to address all concerns regarding provision of services and ensure ongoing provision of high-quality services.
    • Monitor and evaluate performance of the aforementioned individuals.
    • Provide clinical supervision to dependently licensed clinical staff.

All other responsibilities as set forth by Executive Director of Special Education, Superintendent, and CEO.
