Position SummaryThe Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for day-to-day operational support of Clinical Information Systems. This position will serve as a liaison in system initiatives to patient care and support departments with the IT department as it relates to clinical information systems. This role ensures technology is implemented and used appropriately by all areas of the organization to improve the communication and coordination of patient care.
Essential Functions
  • Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and ensures Information Systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
  • Develop and maintain clinical documentation standards and templates to ensure accurate and complete patient data capture.
  • Develops and maintains clinical information systems (CIS) expertise. Participates in software evaluation to determine the full scope of capabilities. Identifies what designs, enhancements, and/or modifications enhance user acceptance and achieve the business needs of the organization.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and IT staff to assess, select, implement, and optimize EHR systems and workflows.
  • Analyze clinical data to identify trends, improve quality of care, and support population health initiatives.
  • Facilitates the design of screens, forms, data flow, and processes with clinical relevance to automate clinical processes to the full extent feasible.
  • Incorporates concepts of security, access, and confidentiality in information systems design, training, and implementation following the Care Clinic’s policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participates in the analysis of clinical environments and the evaluation of applicable evolving technologies (e.g. wireless and point-of-care devices).
  • Facilitates recommendations that support optimal clinical practice and workflow.
  • Works with stakeholders from all departments, including Quality Improvement and Compliance, to help define processes for the implementation of enhanced functionality within the software.
  • Provide education and training to clinicians and appropriate staff on EHR systems and best practices for clinical documentation.
  • Performs annual security audits as well as focused audits on an as-needed basis.
  • Provides support to the IT Helpdesk in troubleshooting issues.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned.
Additional Tasks/Responsibilities
  • All jobs at the Care Clinic are impacted by various grants that are necessary for our sustainability. Serving in this role has direct responsibilities to those grants and is vital to the success and continuation of those grants.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Complete all required training as designated by HR and the position supervisor.
  • Adhere to all policies within the organization and those outlined within the SCCC Employee Handbook.
  • Comply with all SCCC Vaccine Mandates.
  • Willingness to travel and work at other SCCC locations as determined by the supervisor.
  • Comply with all applicable Credentialing and Privileging requirements timely.
  • Embrace the SCCC Mission and Vision and agree to work within the SCCC Guiding Principles and the principles set by the position supervisor.

Education/ExperienceMust Haves to be successful:
  • Master’s degree in nursing or advanced Degree in Nursing.
  • Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse from the State of Colorado.
  • Current CPR card.
  • At least two years experience in a clinical setting.
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows and documentation practices.
  • Experience working with EHR systems and other health IT tools.
  • Ability to train and mentor others effectively.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with multiple linguistic and cultural variables.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to reason objectively.
  • Ability to assess, project, and plan for patients’ needs.
  • Ability to interpret state/federal/agency regulations.
  • Ability to document concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to handle a variety of duties that may be interrupted and/or changed by immediate circumstances.
  • Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, co-workers, administration, health care providers, community agencies, referral sources, regulators, and other health team members.
  • Ability to enlist the cooperation of others.
  • Ability to function well in a high-stress environment.
  • Competent knowledge of Microsoft (Word, & Excel), and database software.
Nice To Haves
  • Previous experience working in an FQHC is highly preferred.
  • Ability to speak the Spanish language (bilingual) preferred.
  • Highly organized.
