Summit County Government is Hiring a Nurse Manager Near Frisco, CO

Under minimal supervision by the Public Health division director, the Nurse Manager performs managerial and leadership functions over professional Public Health nursing team. Performs administrative, managerial, and nursing skills to facilitate the functions of the Public Health nursing program. Provides supervision and hiring of non-exempt and exempt staff including, but not limited to, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and follows discipline and termination procedures. Assesses community needs for nursing interventions relative to the services provided by the Summit County Health Department. The Public Health Nurse Manager guides the work of the Public Health nursing within the mission and objectives of Summit County Public Health while also serving the team as a highly experienced Public Health nurse.
Maintains Public Health Nursing programs
  • Understands and can perform procedures for conducting disease surveillance and case management for clients that are identified to have a communicable disease.
  • Collaborates with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, healthcare providers, hospital, laboratories, and other health departments as needed, to support the management of public health nursing functions
  • Ensures that public health nursing services are available and accessible to the public, including but not limited to: immunizations, communicable disease, prenatal and postnatal consultation, health screenings (hearing, vision, lead, hemoglobin), resource navigation, community education, and child care consultation
  • Maintains knowledge, skills, and abilities to preform functions in all programs offered by public health nursing
  • Ensures that contractual obligations services, such as, childcare consultation and Head Start services are fulfilled by the nursing team
  • Maintains the ability to provide community education in all program areas of public health nursing
  • Ensures that all programs are meeting compliance standards of their governing agency (VFC, communicable disease). 
  • Assesses community needs, assists with development of program goals, objectives, and strategic planning for public health nursing programs consistent with Colorado Nurse Practice Act and state of Colorado recommendations.
Provides Supervision of Personnel and Programs 
  • Provides supervision to the following positions: Care Coordinator, Harm Reduction Support Specialist, Registered Nurse, and Senior Registered Nurse 
  • Provides leadership, develops goals/objectives and implements strategies for nursing staff professional development, consistent with the strategic plans and goals of the department
  • Oversees and provides supervision to personnel and program operations including the assignment and review of work, interpretation of program policies and standing orders for staff.
  • Initiates, manages and when appropriate, works with Human Resources to resolve personnel disciplinary actions. Participates in the interviewing and selection of staff, and scheduling of work time.
  • Coordinates and integrates nursing program activities with other PH programs, Summit County departments, allied agencies, service providers, and community groups.
  • Coordinates clinical rotations for outside nursing students, as needed, and in coordination with the capacity of the department. 
  • Supervises the administration of the immunization program which includes reconciliations, ordering of vaccines, purchasing of equipment and documentation of plans, including VFC agreements for the program.
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of division and programmatic policies, procedures and protocols and/or standing orders. Ensures compliance with established policies and protocols. 
  • Maintains required medication orders and/or official documentation signed by the medical director for the facilitation of the immunization programs, tuberculosis response, Naloxone distribution, emergency management/preparedness.
  • Supervises scope of work of the Harm Reduction and VENDY grants.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing with a preference of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing, public health, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years progressively responsible public health nursing experience, including performing technical nursing duties in public health nursing, 2 years of which must include experience in project management and supervision at the Nursing Supervisor level or equivalent.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Colorado 
  • Valid BLS and CPR
  • Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license
