Performs a variety of supervised and unsupervised road maintenance operations using various types of heavy equipment and hand tools, as more particularly described below, at the direction of the Road & Bridge Operations Manager and Foreman.
Operate, or be trained to operate, heavy equipment such as motor graders, trucks and/or trailers, loaders, backhoes, dozers, excavators, steamers and sweepers to grade roads, plow snow, haul gravel and other materials, repair bridges, install and repair culverts, and complete other projects required to maintain County infrastructure and right-of-ways; assess equipment capabilities and decide which equipment is best suited for a particular job; provide traffic control flagging and signage installation; responsible for operating equipment safely and keeping equipment functioning and in good repair, including such tasks as conducting daily and required routine equipment inspections to identify needed maintenance and notifying mechanic of major maintenance items; perform preventative or minor maintenance such as wearing edge changes and lubrication; may be assigned to seasonal road maintenance project crews for asphalt patching/paving, dust suppression, road sweeping, crack sealing, tree trimming, or other maintenance tasks; assist other workers in performing their duties; respond politely and accurately to public inquiries onsite regarding road and bridge work that is being performed or direct comments to supervisor as appropriate. Must be available to work overtime and/or on a flexible schedule on an as needed basis. Other duties as assigned.
