Job Summary:
The Human Resource and Risk Management Manager will provide tactical leadership for the company including providing guidance and support on employee relations and performance management, compliance with safety and employment regulations, training and development needs, recruiting and hiring of staff, and the administration of the company compensation and benefits.
Reports To: COO Supervisory Relationship: Office Mgr, Payroll Admin
Exemption Status: Exempt Location: Belgrade, MT (in office 3 days a week)
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
A minimum of 8 years of human resource management experience in a similar role and responsibility.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification highly desired.
Preference given to candidates with an understanding of the construction industry and the challenges with working on remote jobsites.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensures that the company remains in compliance with federal and state employment and safety laws and regulations. Develops, recommends, implements, and monitors compliance of Risk Management and HR policies and procedures. Collaborates with leadership to ensure policies and procedures align with company strategic goals, culture, client requirements, and industry trends.
Provides support and guidance to management and other staff on employee relations and performance management. This may involve assisting with investigations, disciplinary meetings, terminations, and interacting with legal counsel when necessary.
Leads initiatives to evaluate and improve upon employee morale and engagement
Manages workers compensation claims by coordinating with safety team to ensure timely and accurate work site injury reporting and documentation, working with third party administrators, safety, and medical professionals to maximize employee care, minimizing OSHA classifications, proactively monitoring the status of cases to determine return to work status, and provide timely communication with claimants, managers, and other applicable parties throughout the claim process.
Responsible for the company’s training programs to provide internal development opportunities for employees, to ensure understanding of safety protocols and procedures, and compliance with industry, government agency, and state required training.
Oversees the talent acquisition process including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes for the employee life cycle. Partners with the leadership team on workforce planning and talent strategy as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
Oversee the administration of the employee benefits and payroll systems and processes.
Administer performance management and processes to align individual goals with company objectives. Provide guidance and support to managers in conducting performance evaluations, setting goals, delivering feedback, and coaching to employees.
Administer compensation program including analyzing trends in compensation, researching and proposing competitive pay scale adjustments, tracking wage increases, and position changes to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
Assist with strategic planning and strategic initiatives. Conduct research, analyze trends and prepare employee related reports and analytics for management review and decision-making.
Stays abreast of new or changing laws and regulations and informs leadership. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes in both state and federal laws, and new technologies in Risk Management and Human Resources.
Develop and manage the budget for the Risk Management Human Resources Department.
Manages state registration, state reporting and licensing requirements for all states we do business in
Manages qualification process pertaining to risk management with new and existing clients, to include ISNetworld
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must have thorough knowledge of Risk Management & Human Resource principles and application, including FLSA and OSHA standards for construction, including workers’ compensation claim-handling procedures
Ability to act with a high level of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and confidentiality
Priority emphasis on attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and active listening skills
Self-motivated, positive, solutions-based attitude
Experience using databases, preferably SAP, Smartsheet, and time-keeping software
Results oriented and a “roll-up-your-sleeves” practitioner to lead projects and resolve issues
Proficient in Microsoft 365 products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
Excellent interpersonal, strong analytical, and conflict resolution skills
Quick responsiveness
Ability and willingness to learn the organization’s HRIS management systems
Must have a valid drivers’ license
Ability to travel occasionally
Ability to be available take lead on any HR/Risk related crisis that come up regardless of United States Time Zones.
Preferred experience with ISNetworld
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically capable of maintaining prolonged periods of sitting or standing with intermittent kneeling or bending.
Must be physically capable of walking on the jobsite on varied, uneven terrain and/or varied temperatures and weather elements.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds at a time.
