POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Laborer I plays a vital role in supporting asphalt and construction operations by assisting in various tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of asphalt pavements and construction projects.

This entry-level position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a willingness to work in outdoor environments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the asphalt paving crew by preparing work sites, laying asphalt materials, and operating hand tools and equipment under the direction of experienced crew members.
• Help in the installation and repair of asphalt surfaces, including patching, sealing, and crack filling.
• Support the asphalt paving crew by transporting materials such as asphalt, gravel, and sand to the work area.
• Assist in the loading and unloading of materials from trucks and equipment.
• Operate machinery to mix asphalt materials as instructed by experienced crew members.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and team members.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols while operating machinery and handling hazardous materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or ability required.

Education and / or Experience :

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in construction, asphalt paving, or related field is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions from supervisors and experienced crew members.
• Willingness to learn and develop skills related to asphalt paving techniques and equipment operation.
• A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work sites may be required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
• Must be willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Consists of on-site at plants. On site work consists of activities which include navigating heights, machinery and exposure to elements such as dust, changes in temperature and weather.

Required safety equipment will be issued and policies and procedures focused on safety will apply.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stamina to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
• Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces as needed.
• Agility to maneuver on uneven terrain and navigate construction sites safely.
