Summit is seeking a Director of Recruitment & Selection to lead one of the most important facets of our work -- attracting outstanding talent that believes in and delivers on our mission of collectively preparing the next generation of young people to live fulfilled lives.

As the Director of Recruitment & Selection, you will develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy and operationalize hiring processes for both schools and network support teams. You will ensure a robust and diverse pipeline of talent for all roles and support team leads across the organization effectively design and plan for current and emergent talent needs. Your responsibilities will also include management and mentoring of the Manager of Recruitment & Selection and deep partnership with the Senior Director of People Operations to drive continuous improvement and build aligned strategies across Summit’s People Operations universe.

The ideal candidate is strategic and results-oriented, is an exceptional project manager, and has a strong track record of building recruitment policies and procedures from the ground up. They have strong interpersonal skills, thrive in collaborative environments, and can effectively move from visioning to implementation in order to support aggressive organizational goals. Navigating ambiguity and uncertainty is not an unknown challenge, and they constantly show up motivated to move the needle and positively impact the lives of students.

This position is preferably based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Seattle/Tacoma, WA, as occasional travel to our school sites, network office, and in-person career or recruitment fairs is anticipated. Those based in either of the two named geographic areas will have flexibility to work from home a majority of the time if desired. We also welcome applications from remote candidates based anywhere in the United States if you are willing to travel and can accommodate working around Pacific Standard Time schedules for many of your peers.

What You’ll Do:

The Director of Recruitment & Selection is responsible for ensuring that Summit schools and the Home Office are staffed with high-quality teachers, leaders, and support staff through outstanding recruitment, selection, and retention strategies. Your primary role will be to:

  • Lead the vision, strategy, and implementation of all organizational recruitment and selection processes for both school-site and home office roles, ensuring a continuous pipeline of top-tier talent across all roles
  • Partner with Summit leaders to understand their unique staffing needs and ensure that recruitment efforts and plans are aligned with organizational goals; Commit to exceptional customer service by ensuring strong partnerships, transparent/open communications, and constant feedback loops
  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve robust systems for tracking, analyzing, and reporting recruitment metrics. Use data-driven insights to refine strategies, improve processes, and demonstrate the impact of recruitment efforts on organizational outcomes to various audiences, including school leaders, network leaders, executive team members, and the Summit Public Schools board of directors
  • Serve as a manager and coach to the Manager of Recruitment and Selection, ensuring they are supported and equipped to meet evolving recruitment challenges and opportunities
  • Actively partner with the Senior Director of People Operations to drive continuous improvement for the R&S function and build and implement aligned strategies across Summit’s People Operations universe
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Human Resources and the Director of People Operations to iterate on and further build aligned processes and partnerships among your respective teams
  • Work with the Marshall Teacher Residency (Summit’s in-house teacher preparation program) to attract, place, and retain diverse, mission aligned prospective teacher residents and interns
  • Co-create and facilitate professional development for systems leaders on topics including, but not limited to, hiring best practices, effective recruitment and retention strategies, and internal selection processes
  • Lead and facilitate internal, talent-related AI pilots, early adoption projects, and innovation working groups
  • Support in the implementation and monitoring of Summit’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy
  • Develop and maintain external partnerships with universities, placement agencies, and other strategic recruitment partners to support varying team needs
  • Partner cross-functionally to move wider organizational initiatives forward

What You Need:

  • Experience leading or supporting full-cycle recruitment/talent acquisition strategies or teams previously; preferably that experience is within the education industry but this is not a requirement
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills to appropriately juggle multiple, at times competing, priorities and execute effectively
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed decisions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and alignment with Summit Public Schools’ mission, vision and values
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate in a compelling manner when speaking internally and externally
  • Strong computer/technical skills in common programs like Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and Applicant Tracking Systems (we use ClearCompany) OR a willingness and demonstrated ability to learn and pick-up new tools/systems quickly
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; masters degree is a bonus but not required
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and health clearance for access to Summit school sites

Our compensation policy strives to be equitable and transparent. The salary range for this position starts at $95,408 and goes up to $139,500 commensurate with experience and qualifications as well as location.
