JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Unit Manager is to supervise, coordinate, and ensure delivery of quality nursing care for specified units as well as provide leadership, technical guidance and instruction to nursing staff. The Unit Manager will serve as back-up for other Unit Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia or transferrable license to Virginia.
  • Education and Experience equivalent to an associate’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of nursing experience; preferably in long term care.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain CPR certification.
  • Supervisory skills required; experienced preferred.
  • RAI/ISP/UAI experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its integrity.
  • Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Produce and maintain schedule for nursing department according to policy.
  • Track absenteeism for nursing department and prepare/execute disciplinary action for absenteeism issues.
  • Process payroll weekly in conjunction with HR Director.
  • Complete ISP and UAI for Assisted Living residents as per required schedule.
  • Inform physician in a timely manner of any changes in resident condition or any resident concerns
  • Administer Employee TB screens and complete all associated paperwork. Ensure completed paperwork is placed in the personnel file.
  • Administer resident/staff influenza vaccinations
  • Orients new nursing staff to electronic medical records program.
  • Ensure incident reports are complete and follow up with nurse for any corrections.
  • Incident/Infection Tracking/Falls Trending for QA on a Weekly basis.
  • Weekly skin breakdown documentation/treatment tracking.
  • Nursing education/competency reviews/checklist for all nursing tasks as assigned.
  • Facility wheelchair and pressure relief devices tracking.
  • Complete performance evaluations for nursing staff by proper due date.
  • Observe staff/make daily rounds and check 24 hour report on both units/all shifts. Follow up on any issues/needs found during rounds and 24 hour report check.
  • Work different shift hours from time to time to ensure all shifts are completing tasks effectively.
  • Review Medicare bills for accuracy.
  • Perform clinic nurse duties.
  • Transcribing orders and helping charge nurse with admits/discharges.
  • MDS submissions/scheduling for Health Care or Assisted Living.
  • Attend care plans meetings for Health Care and Assisted Living.
  • Maintain and Update Care Plans, including CNA care plans.
  • Completes the following assessments upon admission and quarterly: Fall, Braden, Elopement, Etc.
  • Schedule and present resident’s recertification’s for all residents.
  • Oversee functionality/systems for Health Care or Assisted Living.
  • Performs duties per charge nurse and/or CNA job descriptions in staffing crisis situations only.
  • Report Acuity for Assisted Living residents every Friday by close of business and report to Director of Nursing.
  • Completes medical record requests/insurance information and gives to Medical Director for review and signature.
  • Review and assist with writing policies and procedures as assigned.
  • Updates Director of Nursing daily regarding resident/unit information
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing.
  • Maintain any appropriate licensure requirements as required by company policies, Federal/State Regulations and/or outlined above in the qualifications section.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Attend all in-services, training and meetings as required by company policies and Federal/State Regulations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following safety rules and guidelines; follow good housekeeping practices, take proper care of equipment and perform job duties and responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner. Uses chemicals safely and appropriately.
  • Maintains a clean and well organized unit
  • Demonstrate dependability, reliability and punctuality. Report to work when schedule, ready to work.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities as exemplified through teamwork, communication, and support of the DON, peers, and subordinates.
  • Provides, and collaborates to provide, excellence of care at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

General office environment with normal lighting levels, temperature ranges, air quality, ventilation and low noise levels.

Work Schedule:

All work assignments/schedules are based on resident needs and staffing requirements and may be changed as needed. Overtime/Weekend/Holiday work schedules may be required as needed. On-Call Duties Required.

The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time. Additionally employee will routinely sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures..

Work Hazards:

Contact with blood, body fluids and other infectious drainage. Minimal hazards if required Universal Precautions/Infection Control Policies are followed.
