Sun Valley Community School is Hiring a Sun Valley Ski Academy High Performance Coordinator Near Sun Valley, ID

The Sun Valley Ski Academy at Community School in Sun Valley, Idaho, is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic High Performance Coordinator to join the school’s staff for the 2024-25 school year. This is a full-time position with benefits beginning August 1, 2024 or earlier. Faculty housing may be available for the right candidate.

Nestled among five mountain ranges in the heart of the Wood River Valley, Community School is an independent pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade day and boarding school with an enrollment of approximately 450. Sun Valley Ski Academy pairs the best of a Community School education with the proven coaching power of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, a USSA Gold Level certified club and 2024 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Club of the Year. Together we provide an outstanding academic and athletic program that gives ninth grade through twelfth grade day and boarding student-athletes a solid foundation for college with the flexibility to pursue intensive training and competition schedules. Since our inception, we have placed 11 student-athletes on the U.S. Ski, Snowboard, and Para Alpine teams, and over 35 student-athletes onto Division 1 collegiate ski teams.

The Sun Valley Ski Academy High Performance Coordinator, reporting to the Sun Valley Ski Academy’s Program Director, leads all aspects of athletic development for SVSA and Sun Valley Community School athletes. Primary responsibilities are to:

  • Coordinate strength and conditioning & sport science services to all athletes, (including but not limited to Alpine, Big Mountain, Cross Country, Snowboard, Freeski, Freestyle, and Community School sports of soccer, cross country running, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and golf).
  • Work closely with all staff/contractors (including but not limited to Sport Coaches, ATCs/PTs, Physicians, Nutritionists, Sport Psychologists and Teachers) to develop holistic and well-rounded athletic development programs.
  • Liaise closely with U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance staff as well as other U.S. Ski and Snowboard High Performance Center partners to develop and drive world leading athletic development and sport science programs.
  • Design, implement, and monitor all aspects of the yearly-periodized plans for athletic development, movement, strength, power and conditioning, and ensure that each athlete receives individualized training plans addressing their personal goals and weaknesses.
  • Manage all aspects of running the Ketchum Campus’ Julia Argyros Training Center, our 3,200 square foot fitness facility. This includes facility maintenance, equipment ordering/repairs, scheduling, and training of athletes/teams.
  • Periodic travel to support teams at camps and/or competitions as well as to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Center of Excellence in Park City, Utah is required.

  • Possess good leadership qualities and skills.
  • Be prepared to potentially teach high performance subjects in a classroom setting.
  • Weekend, early morning, or evening work may be required to deliver strength and conditioning & sport science services.

The main attributes of our ideal candidate include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in a sport science related discipline, such as strength and conditioning, athletic development, or kinesiology.
  • Other professional qualifications or certifications related to elite athlete conditioning or testing (NSCA CSCS, CSCCa, RCSS, ASCM).
  • At least three years of applied athletic development & sport science experience with developing elite athletic programs.
  • Must be excited and passionate about working with young, adolescent, and elite developing athletes day-to-day, and supporting their athletic and personal growth.
  • Contacts or experience with different elite development team programs in a variety of sports, particularly in areas of athletic development design and/or field and lab based testing. Specific ski & snowboard knowledge would be a significant advantage.
  • A thorough understanding and practical work experience with the principles and application of long term athletic development models, motor skill development, physical education, and pedagogy.
  • Specialist knowledge in the areas of athletic development as it pertains to the conditioning demands of both developing and mature elite athletes.
  • Practical application and teaching experience in a wide range of sport science testing protocols and the ability to work effectively as part of the SVSA.
  • The ability to work closely with all members of the team as well as the ability to organize, plan, and oversee athletes and coaches in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience in the set-up, running, and management of a sport performance training facility and program.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and communication skills
  • Previous experience working with adolescents is a plus.
