Sunnyside Unified School District is Hiring a Program Specialist (TSW) Near Tucson, AZ

DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Transition School to Work (TSW) Coordinator will develop and oversee Transition services for students enrolled in the SUSD Transition School to Work Program. This includes supervisory responsibilities for the certified and non-certified staff of the Transition Program and interaction with other SUSD program administrators. To facilitate the achievement of the desired post-school outcomes for students with disabilities. The TSW Coordinator will also work to create links for students to vocational and developmental training; financial and residential programs.
Essential Functions(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class).Tasks
  • The School to Work Coordinator provides direct services to students by determining appropriate work based on educational needs of students, identifying appropriate work sites, and providing supervision/job coach at the work site.
  • Work directly with teachers, Transition Specialist, Special Education Facilitators, and students to determine student readiness for work-based educational experiences
  • Manage and oversee the program Methodology and Budget agreement with SUSD and RSA.
  • Monitor budget billing and payouts
  • Adjust/amend budget as needed
  • Work closely with Budget analyst and Business office on purchasing, salaries and other expenditures as outlined in the Methodology
  • Establish a presence among employers promoting the value of providing work-based educational experiences for students with disabilities
  • Identify and prepare employers to provide work-based experiences for students with disabilities
  • Assist and advise employers with accommodations and adaptation of the work environment to meet the individual needs of each student
  • Accompany students to worksites for interviews and job shadowing experiences
  • Support students with new employee orientations and their transition to the new work-based learning environment
  • Continuous monitoring, documenting, and supporting students during work-based experiences
  • Supervise the work-based educational experience specifically the School-to-Work program.
  • Maintain appropriate student records, including employer training agreements and plans, performance assessments and profiles, grade reports, attendance records, and other related documentation
  • Meet with parents of students with disabilities to discuss the importance of work-based experiences as part of the student’s educational plan
  • Serve as a liaison and ensure effective communication and coordination among teachers, Transition specialist, Counselors, Special education teachers and outside agency representatives.
  • Revise tasks and provide task analysis for specific jobs/activities as it relates to student comprehension and ability
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, as needed
  • Evaluate job sites and work-based experiences ensuring appropriateness and safety at all times
  • Provide job placement services to complete each student’s transition plan in an appropriate timeframe
  • Assist in the documentation of all key processes and procedures as related to the position
  • Collaborate and organize the SunnyVail leadership conference with partner district TSW coordinator
  • Market the TSW program via newsletters, social media, coordinated media releases and directly with community stakeholders. Organize annual events to showcase TSW with community partners and agencies.
  • Designee may assign other related duties or tasks on an as-needed basis
Knowledge, Skills And Other CharacteristicsKnowledge and understanding State and Federal laws, rules, regulations and activities standards.
Knowledge and/or experience with Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), surrounding Tucson area employment opportunities, and various state regulations related to students and adults with disabilities.
Knowledge of developmental levels of school age children.
Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of various teaching techniques and methods.
Skill in applying common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Skill in reading and interpreting documents such as rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
Skill in writing routine reports and correspondence.
Skill in effective written and oral communication.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Skill in basic math computations.
Ability to work effectively and appropriately with students, parents and other educational professionals regarding student concerns and problems.
Ability to consult with school personnel in developing and implementing effective occupational therapy interventions for students.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.
QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Education or related field.
Supervision Certificate (must complete within 2 years).
Two (5) years of classroom teaching experience, or an equivalent combination or training and experience.
Experience working with student with severe behavioral and emotional issues and/or providing literacy intervention.
Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate in Special Education or related services (CTE).
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Preferred QualificationsAdvanced training in leadership and budgets.
Any equivalent combination of training, education or experience that meets the minimum qualifications and State certification requirements will be accepted.
Salary: PNT-225, Grade E Hours per Day: 8 Days in Contract: 225 Start Date: 2024/2025 School Year
