Sunrise Day Camp, for children ages 3 ½ - 16, is the only dedicated full summer day camp in the world for children with cancer and their siblings. It is a camp designed to meet the emotional, social, recreational and physical needs of these children while allowing them to enjoy the comforts and safety of their own homes at night.

Sunrise Day Camp offers a full, multi-week summer activity program plus year- round camp-like programs. These additional programs take place at our campgrounds and other locations that provide exclusive use of their facilities. Additionally, our in-hospital program Sunrise On Wheels allows children to experience “camp” in the hospital by providing activities for those who are awaiting treatment.

Best of all, Sunrise Day Camp is offered free of charge to all children being treated for cancer and their siblings on a non-sectarian basis. By raising the needed funds from outside sources instead of charging the parents, we can help to alleviate some of the costs, and the related stress, that parents incur caring for a sick child throughout the year. Children who have received medical clearance from their physicians are welcome to attend. Though 7.5 weeks of camp programming is offered, children may register and attend any and every day they feel well enough to do so.

Staff Position

Sunrise Day Camp is actively hiring individuals to serve as a Swim Coordinator. We are looking for individuals who are mature, responsible, energetic, creative, and excited to make a tremendous impact in the lives of our children.

Responsibilities:

- Communicate effectively with camp staff and pool staff.

- Maintain accurate records of camper swim levels.

- Assign campers to swim boxes once they are swim tested.

- Create and manage excel files with swim levels and update regularly.

**This is not a lifeguard position**

Camp will run from June 27 - August 16, with mandatory training sessions throughout June. Dates are TBD.

Our staff works with children between the ages of 3 ½ and 16 for up to seven and a half weeks. Staff positions commonly involve being with children for the full length of the camp day, from camper arrival at 9:30 AM until 3:45 PM. Because our camper population may have greater emotional and physical needs, and because staff stays in close proximity with the campers, the experience is demanding. It is critical that staff members are attentive to children, their individual needs and concerns, and demonstrate a willingness to do more than their share.
