Our Distribution facility based in Castroville, California is currently seeking a General Manager to join our Operations team. The essential function of this position is responsible for establishing the overall vision and direction for internal operations of the assigned departments and carry out strategic initiatives. You will also support employee safety programs and food safety requirements to maintain safe working conditions and to deliver safety targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish the overall vision and direction for internal operations of the assigned departments and carry out strategic initiatives
  • Support employee safety programs and food safety requirements to maintain safe working conditions and to deliver safety targets
  • Strong focus on customer service by preventing late trucks and rejections and controlling fill rates
  • Manage product utilization by maintaining grade out, allocation, and freshness
  • Monitor financial performance and maintain the budget for assigned departments by controlling cost per pound
  • Ensure that the operations are compliant with all Food Safety requirements and successfully protects our customers/consumers
  • Monitor departmental performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary
  • Meet regularly with Plant Manager and other plant management to facilitate resolution of issues/problems between segments and identify best practices
  • Working with Human Resources, responsible for recruitment, hiring, terminations and performance management to meet the staffing requirements of the departments
  • Manage the morale in the department by setting and demonstrating a strong business ethic for dealing with employees, suppliers and customers
  • Make recommendations to enhance and develop policies, procedures and service systems to meet operational goals
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints
  • Measure and monitor key customer service areas
  • Examine reports (e.g., inventory, sales and daily reports) to determine the operational activities and ensure optimum performance
  • Ensure that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures

Position/Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management, Supply Chain Management or related field highly desired. Will consider equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ work experience in a production environment required; produce industry preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state and federal laws and requirements to maintain compliance to all relevant statues and guiding principles (FDA, USDA, MIOSHA, OSHA, CFIA).
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in use of English language with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, present information and direction, and field questions from managers, employees and external contacts.
  • Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Warehouse Management Systems, i.e. NAV JDA is preferred.
  • Willingness to work independently, with minimal supervision and take ownership of job.
  • A high degree of professionalism and personal integrity.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Need to be creative, adaptable and able to accurately handle out-of-the-ordinary issues with a sense of urgency.
  • The core work schedule will be Monday-Saturday, 1st shift; however, the job requires flexibility to work any shift, based on the business needs.
  • Spanish speaking

Working Conditions:

  • Environment includes an expansive refrigerated warehouse, where the temperature averages 50°F.
  • The background noise approaches 70 dcbs.
