Sunshine Community Health Center is Hiring a Dentist - Willow/Talkeetna, AK Near Talkeetna, AK

SUMMARY:

Sunshine Community Health Center is excited to announce an opening on our Dental team for an experienced dentist. At Sunshine, dentists provide long-term and short-term care to a diverse population. Additionally, dentists at Sunshine have access to a multidisciplinary team of medical staff, behavioral health staff, psychiatry, patient advocates, and care management as additional support to provide whole person care for our patients. This dentist position assesses and evaluates the oral health care needs of patients; performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks; institutes and manages care for patients; and performs related work as assigned. This position is also responsible for ensuring the establishment and participation in clinic-wide integrated services such as Well-Child checks and Chronic Care Management, as well as Community Outreach Programs. This position provides direct clinical supervision of oral health staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform direct patient care by providing dental services including but not limited to
  • preventive and restorative care.
  • Responsible for the recommendation and/or administration of medications in accordance
  • with standards of care adopted by the Alaska State Board of Dental Examiners and policies of SCHC.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies
  • Research and develop a knowledge of evidence based oral health procedures and
  • educational tools and methods to instruct and guide patients to optimal oral health including
  • prevention and treatment techniques.
  • Ensure the establishment and participate in clinic-wide services such as Well-Child checks
  • and Chronic Care Management as well as Community Outreach Programs.
  • Accurately record existing diagnosis, exam notes, on-going care and referrals according to
  • an established format, including using appropriate procedural coding.
  • Participation in quality assurance program development and implementation.
  • Dispensing of medications.
  • Adherence to the Center’s dental policies and procedures.
  • Participation in community outreach and education efforts as necessary.
  • Supports and participates in SCHC efforts to be a trauma informed organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Received: Works under the supervision of the Chief Dental Officer. Supervision is received through personal conferences, general observation of work in progress and periodic review by supervisor of completed work.

Performed: Supervision of dental staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of an accredited nationally recognized dental program / school. Professional license to practice as a Dentist. Must obtain and possess or be eligible to apply for Alaska Dental license. Must be in good standing with national and / or state professional organizations, with current continuing education requirements and professional licensure. Two years minimum working in rural and /or underserved clinical environment preferred. Current DEA license required (or in application process). Current ACLS required. Additional emergency licensure recommended (PALS, ATLS, etc.)

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Absolute understanding of need for patient confidentiality in all Sunshine Community Health Center matters.
  • Knowledge of dental clinic operations including medical record keeping and dental charting.
  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard and adherence to safety rules and standards.
  • Effective leadership skills; mentoring and development of dental team.
  • Skill in operating x-ray equipment and film processing.
  • Possess excellent organization skills including accurate and legible records and the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to establish constructive working relationships with all levels of management and with patients, visitors and employees of varied and diverse backgrounds as well as alternative lifestyles.
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment in work prioritization.
  • Ability to complete difficult/complex tasks.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
