The Office of Accessibility Resources at the State University of New York (SUNY) Oneonta is building a community where everyone can bring their whole self to campus and have the opportunity to thrive. We're expanding our team with an Accessibility Counselor who shares our vision of inclusive excellence. Expectations include engaging students with disabilities in an interactive process to develop academic and non-academic accommodations, providing support for a caseload of students, referring students to appropriate campus resources, and providing education, training, and support to campus partners. The Accessibility Counselor will coordinate housing accommodations and caseload management.

SUNY Oneonta's Office of Accessibility Resources is committed to creating an accessible educational experience for students with disabilities. We partner with students, faculty, and other college resources to design accessible environments and to coordinate accommodations for entitled students under federal legislation. In doing so, we affirm the worth of each individual and the spirit of diversity inherent in an inclusive college. We encourage self-advocacy for students and assist faculty and staff in meeting the needs of all SUNY Oneonta students.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Meets with students seeking disability-related accommodations.
  • Develop reasonable and appropriate accommodations related to academic, housing, and parking needs.
  • Utilize knowledge of disability law (Section 504, ADAA, and Fair Housing Act)
  • Participate in developing and facilitating staff trainings for Residential Experience and Housing staff, focused on better supporting students with disabilities in campus housing.
  • Maintain accurate student records and notes to ensure consistency and appropriate data collection.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners, including Residential Experience and Housing, Facilities, faculty, and other staff
  • Participating in relevant campus committees and professional development opportunities
  • Keep updated on research and issues related to students with disabilities in higher education

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years' experience in student services work
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated use of technology

Additional:

  • Familiarity with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 as they apply to postsecondary education.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Related professional experience in a higher education setting.
  • Work experience with university housing
  • Familiarity with case histories, psycho-educational, neuro-psychological, and medical assessments.
  • Experience with related Assistive Technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
  • Bilingual
