Job Description:
The Nebraska Arts Council (NAC) is seeking a Deputy Director to help lead a vibrant, proactive and resourceful statewide agency that has extensive grant programs, a portfolio of pioneering initiatives and a national reputation for outstanding service to the field of arts administration. About the Nebraska Arts Council: The Nebraska Arts Council is an independent agency of the State of Nebraska located in the heart of downtown Omaha. Its mission is to promote, cultivate and sustain the arts for the people of Nebraska. In doing so, the NAC provides grants and services to artists, organizations, communities and schools. The agency has an annual budget of $5M from state, federal and private sources. As an agency of state government, the NAC stands by its core values of treating others with dignity and respect, acting ethically in all situations, and creating an environment for delivering excellent customer service.
After completing initial training and probationary period this position will be hybrid. 3 days in office and 2 days from home.

Job Duties: Develops, maintains, and reports all budgeting and financial accounting of the agency to the executive director, the board, and the proper governmental agencies. Recommends financial policy to the Executive Director and Nebraska Arts Council board, coordinating the work of the board's Finance Committee. Oversees and coordinates the development of grant documents and contracts used to manage funds. Monitors payments to grant recipients to ensure the proper allocation/distribution of funds. Supervises and evaluates the work of assigned staff; reviews weekly goals and objectives, tracks employee progress, provides direction and gives feedback on work progress; recommends personnel actions related to selection, discipline, performance, leave, grievances, work schedules, and assignments. Maintains legislative scrutiny to determine need for new and revised legislation for the agency. Keeps the agency in compliance with state statutes, rules and regulations as well as agency policies. Develops cooperative efforts between the Arts Council and other governmental and non-governmental entities. Participates in the development of agency policies and strategies. Participates in peer group activities with other state arts organizations. Other duties as assigned within the scope of classification.
Requirements/ Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or nonprofit management plus three years' experience in arts administration and management. Related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Other: Regular and reliable attendance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: accounting, finance, and budgeting principles and procedures; state, federal, and private funding procedures; state statutes as they apply to the Nebraska Arts Council; labor contracts and State Personnel rules and regulations; state legislative processes; state agency operation; arts disciplines and programs; artist contracts; grants and contracts processing and monitoring. Familiarity with Quickbooks, Bill.com and Excel is helpful. Ability to: communicate effectively; work effectively with co-workers, superiors and arts professionals; organize and direct projects; work under pressure; meet deadlines; construct and analyze agency budget and financial documents; analyze pending legislative actions for applicability to the Nebraska Arts Council; make and defend decisions; work independently; set goals and objectives; supervise staff to meet agency goals and objectives; grasp abstract concepts and apply them to the job; plan and direct the work of others.
