JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING
I.SUMMARY OF THE JOB
The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing with planning, organizing, developing and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department in accordance with current Federal, state and local standards and established nursing policies and procedures. He/she is also responsible for providing a positive, caring and homelike environment for the residents.
l . A Registered Nurse in good standing and currently licensed in the state of Florida.
2. Completion of all required training courses.
3. Minimum of two years supervisory experience.
4. At least 21 years of age.
5. Neat and professional in appearance.
l . Demonstrates a positive team spirit and a willingness to provide the highest level of patient care.
2. Knowledge and adherence to Federal, state and local standards and company policies and procedures.
3. Knowledge and adherence to nursing professional standards of practice.
4. Ability to move throughout work area, bend, reach, lift, grasp, push, pull, distinguish smells and temperatures, see, hear and respond to residents.
6. Ability to communicate in a clear and courteous manner.
7. Ability to speak, read and write in the English language.
8. Ability to problem solve within the scope of role.
l . Ensures that residents are treated with dignity, kindness and respect; maintains residents’ privacy and confidentiality and adheres to resident’s bill of rights at all times.
2. Assists the Director of Nursing in the planning, organizing, implementing and supervising the day-to-day nursing functions in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the facility.
3. Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other residents services to ensure the continuity of the residents total plan of care.
4. Develops and maintains a good rapport with all departments to ensure that a team effort is a team effort is achieved in executing the residents plan of care.
5. Ensures that all nursing personnel follow job descriptions and all company policies and procedures at all times.
6. Assists in developing the resident’s comprehensive assessment and plan of care and ensures that care plans are used in providing daily nursing services to the resident.
7. Monitors, reviews and assures accuracy for medication passes, treatment schedules, medication cards and medication control and storage.
8. Participates in the selection of residents for admission using the proper screening forms.
9. Informs nursing personnel of new admissions and directs room preparations, greetings and pleasant arrival.
10. Oversees residents room changes and ensures the proper procedures are followed.
1l . Ensures that attending physicians record and sign progress notes, physicians' orders, etc. on a timely basis and in accordance with current regulations.
12. Schedules work assignments to maintain adequate staff in relation to resident’s needs.
13. Monitors staff regarding absenteeism, complaints, grievances and disciplinary action and reports problem areas to the Director of Nursing.
14. Participates in performing employee performance evaluations.
16.Delegates administrative authority, responsibility and accountability to nursing supervisory personnel as necessary.
18. Completes medical forms, reports, studies, charting, etc. as needed.
19. Reviews nursing notes to assure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
20. Performs nursing care as needed.
21. Ensures that personnel, residents and visitors follow established policies and procedures at all times.
22. Monitors residents and family grievances and maintains a report of corrective action for review by the Director of Nursing.
23. Maintains a clean, orderly, sanitary and safe environment for residents at all times.
25. Participates in the planning of the nursing budget.
26. Assists in developing and monitoring adequate and cost-effective inventory control procedures and makes periodic inspections of supplies and equipment to ensure that adequate levels are maintained.
27. Monitors nursing licenses and informs nurses of expirations 30 days in advance of expiration date.
29. Develops, implements and participates in new employee orientation programs.
30. Develops, conducts and participates in ongoing education and training and encourages staff involvement.
31. Participates in all required meetings such as care plan, utilization review, infection control, etc. assists in preparing and implementing reports, agendas and programs.
32. Assumes the duties of the Director of Nursing in his/her absence.
