Performs laboratory procedures accurately and expeditiously.
Job Description :
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Produces accurate laboratory test results following established procedures and within designated turnaround time period. Notifies supervisor of exceptional results. Organizes pending work appropriately for follow-up.
Writes manual results or work records legibly and completely. Reports results accurately on work lists, logs, and via computer.
Performs required calibrations, daily and periodic preventive maintenance and quality control (QC) procedures according to the standard operating procedure (SOP), documenting results and actions properly.
Troubleshoots and attempts to resolve problems relating to testing (e.g., QC out of range, inappropriate specimens, reagent or instrument or equipment problems). Notifies supervisor of discrepant results or problems, and completes corrective action report form.
Processes and handles specimens, ordering required tests.
Records receipt and labels all reagents according to SOP.
Performs efficiency testing and evaluation of new products or procedures, and submits a Reporting/Evaluation form within the required time frame.
Reports complaints from patients, physicians, staff or other individuals to lab section manager.
Telephones results when necessary and documents action according to SOP.
Maintains appropriate amount of supplies, and notifies supervisor as appropriate of supply problems.
Orients new employees in job specific tasks.
Attends hospital in-services and other continuing education programs.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, having the ability to assess data reflective of such patients' status, identifying each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and applying the principles of growth and development of such patients.
By maintaining high standards of excellence, helps the Medical Center fulfill its mission by providing compassionate care and respecting the dignity of others. Applies the principles of "continuous quality improvement" which includes working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service orientation toward all.
EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
Bachelor's: from four-year college or university; and one year training or equivalent combination of education and experience meeting state requirements.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
Valid California Clinical Technologist license.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of laboratory test methods, specimen requirements, test limitations, test interpretations sufficient to perform tests accurately and to recognize and analyze problems effectively.
Skill in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
Skill in performing manual and automated test procedures.
Skill in computer keyboard data entry/retrieval.
Skill in the recognition and analysis of problems in laboratory test performance, calibration and QC.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers.
Skill in phlebotomy.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, and analysis of variance.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay Range is $60.43 to $76.63 / hour
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
