Suttons Bay Public school is looking for a full-time specials teacher to provide a music experience for elementary students (K-4) including vocal and instrument introduction, secondary choir student (9-12) for one section of the day, and work in our elementary media center for up to one section of the day (K-5). The ideal candidate will be a student centered problem solver with a strong desire to create a fun, rigorous, and joyful learning experiences for all students. Candidates should also be able to establish meaningful relationships and develop a positive rapport with their students, parents and other staff members. Our ideal candidates are also fiercely resilient educators that find creative and innovative ways to motivate students to engage in music education. 

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate for Music Edcuation JX or JQ endorsements for K-12
• Valid and current teaching certificate from the State of Michigan
• Certifications and qualifications necessary to teach the curricular area(s) pursued
• Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills
• Demonstrated successful classroom experience and student teaching

Performance Responsibilities:

• Teaching grade level content expectations using SBPS-provided curriculum
• Knowledgeable in current music and general teaching practices, and the ability to connect all students to music
• Providing an engaging learning environment that facilitates a high level of student achievement
• Effective communication with students, staff, administration, parents and community members
• Relate to and instruct students in large groups, small groups, and individualized settings
• Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction
• Demonstrated ability to work with professional and support staff to enrich student growth
• Actively participate in professional learning communities
• Integrate technology into lesson planning, gathering assessment data, and in required record keeping in an effective and efficient manner
• Keen awareness of responsibilities for confidentiality and professionalism
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of highly effective classroom management strategies and instructional practices as well as the ability to implement those concepts in a classroom setting
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal
