Job Overview:

As a Sales Associate at Swahili African Crafts, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our store, both physically and online. You will help foster a community that values ethical consumption, cultural heritage, and the empowerment of global artisans. This position offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the principles of Fair Trade and gain comprehensive retail management experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Sales Floor Activities:

• Engage with customers, providing them with a welcoming and informative shopping experience.
• Communicate the cultural significance and stories behind our products.
• Share Fair Trade principles and how customers' purchases support artisans and promote sustainable practices.

2. Product Organization and Merchandising:

• Ensure products are displayed effectively and appealingly.
• Maintain accurate product information and tagging, highlighting the artisans' craftsmanship and the origins of the items.

3. Backend Operations:

• Assist in tagging and maintaining detailed product information.
• Understand and communicate the background and significance of our products.

4. Fair Trade Compliance:

• Ensure all activities align with our Fair Trade principles, promoting transparency, fairness, and sustainability.
• Be proactive in suggesting and implementing ways to improve our Fair Trade practices.

Qualifications:

• Willingness to educate oneself on Fair Trade principles and ethical consumption.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and maintain attention to detail.
• Experience in retail, sales, or a related field is preferred.
• Proficiency in using social media for engagement.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
