Swisher is Hiring a Controls Engineer (Maintenance Development Specialist) Near Wheeling, WV

Primary Purpose:

The Controls Engineer (Maintenance Development Specialist) supports, develops, and upgrades all aspects of the electrical control systems of machinery in the Wheeling, WV and Hopkinsville, KY locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design, development, documentation, testing, modification of programs for new equipment’s electrical, control, automation network, and PLC systems
  • Communicate with manufacturers on the design and cost of new or replacement equipment
  • Monitor and document the progress of projects from the design stage to commissioning
  • Assist in carrying out trials for product and/or process development
  • Create and/or modify PLC and HMI programs as necessary (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 500, ControlLogix 5000, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, Automation Direct ALL models/series, Siemens S7 series, Unitronics, Pro-face, as well as other programming languages as needed)
  • Identify root causes of machinery issues and oversee remediation
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Required 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with PLC, HMI, and Motion Control programming
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering designs, installations, maintenance, repairs, programmable logic controls and diagnostic testing software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams
  • Knowledge of Engineering Standards such as safety, electrical, and pneumatic (OSHA, NEC, NFPA, UL, ANSI, CE, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, improvisation, and problem-solving abilities

Education:

  • Technical Certificate pertaining to Industrial Automation
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification

Travel: 10%
