We are growing quickly in 2024, and are hiring experienced, collaborative members of our data team to redefine how we define and provide care to this patient population. 

About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will leverage data science techniques to analyze healthcare data, identify population health trends, perform risk stratification, and develop novel algorithms to enable our clinical teams to provide the best possible care for patients with neurodegenerative disease. This role is crucial in helping us determine whom to serve at what cadence, ensuring patients who need the most attention receive it promptly, and developing insight into the patterns and relationships between treatment and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Be a domain expert on clinical information models, industry standard ontologies and controlled vocabularies
• Create custom clinically oriented grouper ontologies and/or knowledge graphs for representing knowledge accurately in all our data and information products
• Standardize definitions across the data platform via business logic developed collaboratively with clinicians, informaticists and engineers
• Derive or impute codified insights from foundational data elements
• Translate clinical and scientific research questions into data criteria
• Build cohorts and reports based on data inclusion and exclusion criteriaFind creative ways to visualize information to tell a compelling data story
• Run data attrition analyses and descriptive statistical analyses on our regulatory grade data platform
• Codify repeatable business logic into reusable functions and methods
• Create and maintain a library of data derivation functions
• Follow and cultivate data science best practices like double validation, code reviews, precision and scale tracking of various algorithms, unit testing, code versioning and impact analysis before promoting to production
• Proactively document code, release notes and decisions

• Masters in Data Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field
• Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience
• Comfort working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, agile development environment alongside clinicians, product managers, informaticians and engineers
• Proficiency in at least one query language (e.g., Python, SQL, PySpark, R) and ability to quickly learn new query languages if required
• Ability to write logical functions that can be integrated into software codeUnderstanding of clinical data especially observational research data sets (e.g., OMOP, PCORnet, i2b2, Sentinel CDM)
• Experience working directly with existing biomedical ontologies (e.g., SNOMED, MeSH, UMLS)
• Experience working with standard controlled vocabularies (e.g., SNOMED-CT, LOINC, RxNorm, NDC, ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, tools and services
• Exceptional attention to detail; analytical and logical reasoning skills; critical thinking skills; ability to detect and clean messiness in data

Travel Requirements:This position is fully remote, and we provide the necessary technology to work from home. Occasional travel to our headquarters in Chicago, IL and/or other locations may be expected.

Salary and Benefits:Position is full time/exempt with competitive salary ($150-190k, based on experience) and benefits package including health insurance offering. Salary range for this role is competitive depending on the candidate’s level of experience
