Douglas and Sharon Weaver started the Douglas J family of companies in 1967 with five employees and a passion for the Salon/Spa industry. They wanted to build a location that could pride itself on exceeding the guests' expectations with every Douglas J experience. Since the initial opening, Douglas J has gone through 50 years of growth, expansion and evolution. We now have 9 locations including Aveda Institutes, Aveda Concept Salons and our Aveda Salon & Spa. We offer a complete menu of services in hair design and color, skin care, nail therapy, and massage therapy. Essential duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

• Ensure curriculum being taught reflects current standards within the industry as well as in alignment with the standards set forth by the Education Resource team.
• Prepare for class including presentation and teaching of curriculum.
• Ensure safe and sanitary practices are being upheld by both students and educators when practicing or demonstrating in classroom and clinic floor.
• Maintain academic records and ensure continuous evaluations are given to students on an ongoing basis, such as student performance in theory, practical and clinical experiences.
• Assist each student, according to that student's learning process, with understanding and successful application of technical and theoretical information.
• Coach and mentor students on attendance, personal development, professional development, program retention, business goals and other personal and/or educational challenges
• Maintain guest satisfaction; handle and resolve guest complaints and ensure guest servicing is consistent with educational standards.
• Provide and promote a positive learning environment for the student body.
• Meet or exceed required education classes for licensure.
• Regularly improve teaching skills through continued growth.
• Uphold Douglas J and Aveda Mission and Values through actions and behaviors.
• Attend scheduled team and Institute meetings as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Must have Saturday availability
• Active Massage Therapist license
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in field of practice
• Teaching experience at a cosmetology or massage school a plus
• Previous experience with Aveda products/services/curriculum strongly preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Excellent customer service and presentation skills
• Leadership and role model capabilities
• Ability to maintain composure and thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
• Attention to detail
• Willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
• Polished, professional image, consistent with the Douglas J Image Principle
