Syndeo Staffing is searching for a Maintenance Mechanic for the City of Wichita Housing Department. This position involves a variety of mechanical skills and single-family home repairs for housing residents. Please advise this is a temporary assignment and your employment is contingent upon attendance and performance measures being met.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Pay: $19.28/hour

Duties Include:

• Replace smoke/carbon dioxide detectors
• Repair/Replace windows (glass/screens), doors, siding and fencing
• Replace water heaters, repair water leaks, replace water fixtures/toilet and clean sewer lines
• Repair/Replace floor joist, sub-floor, underlayment, floor tile and vinyl flooring
• Repair driveways, sidewalks, concrete porches, and steps
• Brush, roll and spray paint interior of units
• Carpentry work repair and install cabinets, countertops, trim, and casing
• Ability to effectively use small precision tools for close tolerance work.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and to bend, twist, and reach as necessary to repair equipment.
• Ability to tolerate exposure to chemicals and fluids commonly used in building and equipment maintenance and repair and airborne environmental nuisances associated with machine exhaust and open grounds.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds; to lift and carry up to 300 pounds with the assistance of another person.
• Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of pressure using tools that tighten, loosen, or cut.
• Ability to shovel snow and lift the load up to four feet high, and use mowing equipment to maintain the grounds of vacant housing units and vacant lots.
• Ability to enter attics and move about to make necessary repairs insulation, electrical, and exhaust systems; to enter crawl spaces as small as 14 1/2" x 24" and move about as necessary to make repairs to foundation, plumbing, and vapor barrier.
• Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
• An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Requirements:

Two years of experience as a skilled worker in building and mechanical repair work or single-family home repair, maintenance and/or rehabilitation, or applicable trade school training.

Pre-employment drug and background screening will be required.
