Summary/Objective

The Senior Detailer is responsible for the quality assurance of documents on assigned projects created by the drafter throughout the drafting process, ensuring compliance with contract documents, project specifications, engineering requirements, and weldment standard operating procedures. Senior Detailer also serves as a Liaison Coordinator between outsourced drafting and engineering resources and our internal operations. Through this process, the Detailer uses building modeling software to create clear, concise drawings which can be easily updated to suit changing site conditions with the final drawings being utilized to communicate fabrication and installation requirements.

Primary Responsibilities/Functions

  1. Attend Design and Construction Meetings: Participate in Design and Analysis (DA) meetings to contribute to the project's success by providing valuable insights and collaborating with other stakeholders.
  2. Concept Drawing Approval: Review and approve concept drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
  3. Constructability Review: Conduct thorough reviews of engineering, fabrication, installation, and logistics processes to ensure constructability and identify potential issues early in the project.
  4. BIM Coordination: Establish and maintain effective Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination among various teams to streamline communication and optimize project execution.
  5. Floor-to-Floor Coordination: Ensure seamless coordination between different floor levels, contributing to the overall efficiency of the project.
  6. Daily Model Review: Actively participate in daily reviews of project models to identify and address discrepancies, conflicts, and other issues promptly.
  7. Drafting Schedule and Resource Management: Manage drafting schedules and allocate resources effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  8. Advance Steel Subject Matter Expert (SME): Serve as an expert in Advance Steel software, providing guidance and support to the drafting team and ensuring its efficient utilization.
  9. Checks submittal, installation, and fabrication drawings for dimensional accuracy to construction documents, constructability and general conformance to specifications, application of project details, standard operating procedure, and engineering requirements.
  10. Checks for accuracy to installation and fabrication drawings, formatting, and clarity.
  11. Checking quantity and the bill of materials on the fabrication drawings.
  12. Completing model and/or sketches for specific design issues
  13. Coordinating with Construction PM and Engineer Personnel
  14. Ability to work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers.
  15. Must have the ability to produce/review drawings and provide feedback through redlines to engineering team.
  16. AISC QC Checklist: Perform rigorous reviews of projects using the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Quality Control checklist to maintain the highest quality standards.
  17. Timecard Approval: Review and approve timecards for team members, ensuring accurate recording of hours worked. Monthly 1:1 Meetings: Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members monthly to provide guidance, and support, and ensure alignment with project goals.

Required Skills/Attributes

  1. Proficiency in reading and understanding construction documents and shop drawings.
  2. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Revit, Recap, Inventor and/or Auto CAD 2D, and 3D
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Ability to work to a schedule and achieve timelines
  5. Problem Solving/Analysis
  6. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively

Required Education/Experience

  1. Associate degree in design/Drafting and/or CAD preferred.
  2. Certification of two (2) years training from a vocational training school or two (2) years of college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering.
  3. 7 years of professional drafting experience
  4. 7 years of related experience to our relevant industry of stairs, rails, and glass guardrails
  5. 7 years extensive pre-fabrication drafting checking experience preferred.
  6. Must have experience using solid modeling CAD software (experience with Advance Steel/Inventor works a plus)
  7. Experience in Ornamental Drafting as an asset.
  8. Experience with AISC drawing standards.
  9. Experience with AESS standard finish specifications.
  10. Experience with IBC codes.
  11. Experience with weldment practices and methods.
  12. Experience checking fabrication prints.
  13. Experience with logistics: Erection – Material sizes/weights for building access and crane.
  14. Experience with logistics: Shipping – Material sizes/weights for truck loads and size.
  15. Familiarity with AISC QC checklists and quality control processes.
  16. Structural and Architectural Drafting and Detailing Experience
  17. Prior experience in managing drafting schedules and resources is a plus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration when on a job site. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

The employee is required to have a clean workspace in home, hotel, etc. for virtual meetings, internally or externally with clients, vendors, etc.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active when on a job site and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Personal Protective Equipment

Utilize PP&E in compliance with OSHA standard and per site specific safety programs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position (40 hours). Workdays are Monday through Friday, work times are dependent on department, projects, and supervisor’s request and approval.
