Quality Lab Technician

What is Synthomer Looking for?

A lab technician to perform chemical and physical analyses on samples as specified in the QC system, on COAs, or on batch papers and as directed by the Lead Technician or the QC Manager. The candidate must be able to support and be aligned with business goals by contributing to the Company’s quality objectives. Must be able to satisfy the Core Competencies for the role, including but not limited to a commitment to safety and teamwork. This position supports a 24/7 operation and will work on one of 4 fixed 12 hour shifts.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Follow all plant safety requirements and participate in activities to continuously improve safety performance. Lead/participate in department and site safety initiatives including attending and leading safety meetings as assigned.
• Analyze samples to ensure they meet quality specifications and participate in quality investigations.
• Record sample data and test results into SAP and other departmental documents.
• Communicate test results and discuss necessary corrective actions.
• Assign retain number, label and store retain sample.
• Discard old retains or pull and retest retains as requested.
• Maintain lab equipment and work area. Keep lab areas clean.
• Monitor supply stock and replenish as needed.
• Dispose of sample and retain waste in proper waste material drums.
• Complete all required training activities. Input, retrieve, and fax COAs to Customer.
• Verify and calibrate equipment properly. Monitor and change compressed gas cylinders.
• Inform Lead or Manager of any exceptions, problems or needs.
• Answer questions or get information or get help for customers or other departments or product stewards who need assistance.
• Utilize math skills and lab techniques to develop recommendations for corrective actions and adjustments.
• Perform all additional duties as requested by Lead Technician or QC Supervisor.

Education And/or Experience

• High school diploma or GED
  
  

Skills

• Good math skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills.

• Ability to wear safety equipment as required, including:
• Gloves
• Aprons, lab coats
• Safety Goggles, Safety glasses, face shields
• Safety shoes
• Hard hat
• Ability to use computer for data entry in SAP and basic MS Office programs.

This job requires the ability to work 12 hour shifts including both days and nights as required by business needs.
