Summary:

Perform an essential role in providing immediate support to callers facing emotional, psychological, or behavioral crises.

Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a Crisis Intervention Specialist or similar role in mental health services.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and ethical standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and patient with a strong desire to help others.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field.
  • Certification in crisis intervention is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate clients’ needs and de-escalate tense situations.
  • Offer support and guidance to callers.
  • Coordinate referrals to appropriate resources or services and document interactions.
  • Document critical incidents.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Engage callers to ensure their safety until the crisis is resolved.
  • Contact emergency services for those callers are an imminent danger to self and others.
  • Implement crisis safety plans for those callers that are at low risk for harm to self or others.
  • Provide emotional support, conduct motivational interviews, assess referrals, and consult with mental health service providers, as needed.
  • Elevate crisis calls based on procedures, based upon required process and risk assessment skills.
  • Report to your supervisor and actively seek consultation when needed.
  • Safeguard privileged information and comply with client privacy laws.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance service quality.
  • Stay up-to-date with required crisis intervention trainings.
