Syracuse University is Hiring an Assistant Teaching Professor - Counselor Education Near Syracuse, NY

The Counseling and Human Services (CHS) programs and the School of Education at Syracuse University invite applications for a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of assistant teaching professor, beginning August 19, 2024. This position is eligible for promotion and offers a 3-year renewable contract based on performance and unit need. The primary duties of this position include teaching master's level courses for the School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs, academic advising and supervision, and assuming key leadership/service roles including but not limited to serving as field experience director. We seek an individual with a strong ability or potential to teach, provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and advising students, and to foster collaboration and community among CHS faculty and students.

About the School of Education and Counseling and Human Services programs

The School of Education has a sustained legacy for leadership in the U.S., and international communities in inclusive and equitable education. It is dedicated to preparing thoughtful and socially just undergraduate and graduate leaders in their respective fields. Currently, it centers three distinctive signatures to organize and inform faculty scholarship, teaching/advising, organizational structures, policies and practices, and resource allocation. These signatures include: inclusive and antiracist pedagogies and practice; the integration of digital learning technologies to increase access, engagement, and student learning; and the use of innovative, rich experiential learning opportunities.

The faculty in the Counseling and Human Services programs are committed to advancing its mission of preparing the next generation of professional counselors, supervisors, and educators who will have meaningful and sustained impact in their communities. Their mission is enacted through its scholarly emphasis and teaching focused on impactful and engaged scholarship, humanistic engagement, reflexive leadership, experiential and constructivist pedagogy, social justice advocacy and activism, wellness, prevention, and resiliency, and constructivist clinical supervision.

Qualifications

* A doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited university program is required at the time of appointment.

* Eligibility for or commitment to secure New York State certification as a school counselor and/or licensure as a mental health counselor.

Job Specific Qualifications

* A track record of high-impact, experiential pedagogy in several of the following content areas: human development, counseling children and adolescents, counselor in the schools, career development, group work, social justice and multicultural counseling, research methods, crisis counseling, practicum and internship.

* Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Evidence of ability to create an inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

* Strong, collegial communication and collaborative teamwork skills.

* Demonstrated ability or potential to provide administrative leadership and strong organizational skills.

* Knowledge of CACREP Accreditation standards.

* Familiarity with practicum and internship courses, placement processes, and support needs students face through the field experience processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Two years of counseling experience within the past 10 years.

* Teaching and clinical experience working with diverse cultural groups.

* Evidence of ability or potential to teach a variety of counseling-related courses.

* Evidence of ability or potential to provide clinical supervision effectively.

* Evidence of ability to create an inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

* Evidence of collaboration with counseling practitioners within the community and professional organizations through active engagement in state and/or national professional organizations and collaborative relationships among faculty, professional staff, and students.

Responsibilities

* Teach up to (4) four courses per semester (fall and spring).

* Serve as field experience director for master's and doctoral internships and practicum experiences with support from the School of Education's Director of Experiential Learning and Partnerships. Possible course release for field director responsibilities.

* Manage CHS's master's and doctoral admissions processes.

* Coordinate CHS Advisory Committee.

* Supervise and advise students.

* Engage in service to the unit, School of Education, Syracuse University, and the counseling profession.
