Systems In Motion is Hiring a Concepting & Estimating Engineer Near Elgin, IL

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The purpose of the estimating department is to provide estimating support to the sales team. In addition to developing and maintaining a standard estimating work process. As a resource to the Sales team, the Estimating Manager will ensure estimate data will be provided in a format satisfactory to the team.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – ESTIMATING

1.Planning- Ensure the development and maintenance of company standards and estimating services. Provide a structure that will facilitate a coordinated effort to ensure the proper resources are available at all times to the Sales Team. Identify in a timely manner and assist in the recruitment of new estimating resources as necessary. In addition, planning involves a coordinated effort with the Engineering group to ensure standards, policies and procedures are available for the estimating group.

2.Coordination- Facilitate effective communication and efficient resource deployment within the estimating group as well as with the Sales Team. Including prioritizing workload effectively and responding in a timely fashion.

3.Execution- Ensure the commitments of the estimating group are fulfilled. This includes the development and deployment of resources, the implementation and continual improvement of estimating standards, policies and procedures, and providing the primary customer (the Sales Team) with excellent service resulting in a high level of customer satisfaction.

a.This includes working with the Sales Team to develop concepts to meet customer requirements.

b.Establish the proper equipment application to meet customer’s needs and budget.

c.Establish working layout drawing

d.Establishing a description of operation with the sales team to present to vendors and client.

e.Provide competitive quotations for outside vendors (Specials, Mechanical & Electrical

Installation). This includes, but is not limited to, proficiency in use of internal, and external programs (HEROES, HYCAD, and D-pricer)

f.Provide a material list & pricing

g.Pre-Sale site visits for qualified potentials, as needed

h.Assist in proposal presentation, if required.

4.Management- Establish and maintain the organization of the estimating group. Ensure that estimating methods are standardized and proper training is administered.

5.Company and Project Goals- Assure that all company and/or project goals are properly communicated to and acted upon by all estimating personnel.

6.Update and improve Master Estimate Summary Sheet, communicate changes, and train personnel as required

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Attend hand-off meeting between Sales and Applications after formal PO

2.Help team members through mentoring and coaching in complex subjects

3.Provide technical guidance to associates and management

4.Keep standard vendor list for various products, installations, etc, and update regularly

5.Look for ways to improve, and more competitive

DECISION MAKING

1.Decide which equipment and vendor is the best choice for the customers application and budget.

2.Concepting a design, deciding the best use of available space, and best desired flow of product.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

•None

EDUCATION

•Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

•10 years with a conveyor manufacturer and/or systems integrator

•2 years managerial experience

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

•Valid Driver’s License

TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS

•Basic computer knowledge, including MS Excel, Wood, and Outlook

MATH SKILLS/REASONING ABILITY

•Strong mathematical skills and reasoning ability required

SKILLS REQUIRED 

•Ability to read drawings and visualize details in three dimensions

•Attention to detail

•Knowledge of mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and their installation

•Excellent problem-solving skills

•Effective communications abilities

•Posses excellent leadership skills and have the ability to effectively lead employees in the estimating group
