Job SummaryServe as an Athletic Trainer for the 39-sport Collegiate Sports Clubs Program within the Department of Campus Recreation. In collaboration with the other Sports Clubs athletic trainer, and under the direction of a physician, supervise the prevention, evaluation, treatment and care of all Sports Clubs related injuries. Establish a standard of care for concussions or mild traumatic brain injuries including athlete education/risk factors, baseline testing, and return-to-play protocol with medical oversight from Student Health. Make injury referrals to appropriate medical personnel. Assist with reconditioning and rehabilitation of athletes on referral from physicians. Update coaches regularly on the status of injured athletes. Maintain the operation of the athletic training facilities used. Maintain records and files on all aspects of athletic training operations. Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the Sports Clubs Program. Help develop and supervise an instruction program for Sports Clubs student athletes, student supervisors, coaches and safety officers.

Work Environment
  • Must work closely with Campus Recreation staff regarding shared space for treatment, rehabilitation and evaluation.
  • Work hours are outside standard 8AM-5PM schedule; hours will be set by the Sport Clubs Coordinator and Head Athletic Trainer to accommodate events, practices and consultation hours, and will include evenings and weekends.
  • Possible travel, to assist at away events, if funded by the sport club and weekly hours permits.

  • Certified member in good standing of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) or an equivalent organization.
  • Current Red Cross or Heart Association First Aid and CPR/AED certifications (Instructor-level certifications preferred).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Physical Therapy or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year post-degree experience in athletic training under direct supervision of a NATA-certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Skill in the use of various athletic training room aids (tape, wraps, modalities, exercise programs, massage, etc.) necessary to successful application of the athletic training methods.
  • Knowledge of the competencies and domains of athletic training, including methods associated with prevention, evaluation, care and treatment of all athletic injuries injuries including concussion and return-to-play methods.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively and establish cooperative working relationships with persons of diverse backgrounds and at various organizational levels within and outside the university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Physical Education, Physical Therapy or related field.
  • Knowledge of sound coaching principles and techniques for a variety of sports as they apply to athletic injury prevention.
  • Knowledge of sound teaching techniques necessary to train and instruct participants and student staff.
  • Skills to learn and adhere to UC Davis Sports Clubs administrative philosophies, parameters, and limitations.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work to meet all deadlines and schedules.
